Can you believe that guy in the third video got voted into the bottom two after that performance? I mean, yes we have reached the stage where everyone is awesome and you still have to vote someone out, but that was probably his best routine all season and what the hell was America thinking? He managed to get saved by the judges and they sent the other dude home, but I couldn't believe they even voted him down for that one. It was a really great piece and he was amazing in it! (plus, Melanie! She makes everybody she dances with a better dancer, just by proximity).
I really adore the second one though. They both just threw their emotions into it. Plus, seriously, they have so many damn 'love story' routines on this show - I get kind of bored of it, me and my cynical heart - so it was nice to see it mixed up a little.
As for the first one - now after years of watching this show, I can recognize that it was, while certainly Great, not like 'omg the best one I've ever seen', but it still gets to me because it was the first SYTYCD routine I ever saw and also I know Mia Michels choreographed it right after her father died and she was crying her eyes out at the end of the routine which always gets to me too. But certainly not Neil's best performance by far.
BTW, while we are on the subject of dance - Drama-Queen Dude on Breaking Pointe got the contract. The other dude who didn't get the contract was totally gracious about the whole thing, which just made it that much worse! It was sweet when Drama-Queen Dude found out and then went into the lobby and to hug his fiancée though, because it really would have upended their lives to have to move - and the fiancée is a nice enough guy to be of the mindset of 'If you have to find another job some place else, then I have to find another job some place else too,' but damn, that guy was totally obnoxious and I feel like he'll never learn anything about maturity if he always gets what he wants. (he goofs off in the back of class while everyone else is trying to learn their routines - seriously how did he get this far without a teacher busting his ass for that shit?)
