These are all valid points. I had never even thought of the summer school thing before. And that you can't get a second job. (I'd heard the argument from teenagers that they want to work summer jobs and year-round school prevents that). I just remember my little brother freaking out the week before 2nd grade started for him because he literally could not remember how to hold a pencil, since he hadn't done it all summer long. I had to re-teach him how to hold a fucking pencil, it was ridiculous.

But I used to get a lot of shit in my line of work at the daycare(s), for saying that I was pro-year round schools because it is terrible for child care options for the parents and the facilities themselves. You can't hold a day-long/full-time spot open for a kid who is only going to use it during the oddly timed breaks from school - you just can't. I was 19, I never thought about it from the parents' perspective back then, which is why now I kind of waver back and forth on how I feel about it. Basically more parents just need to make their kids pick up a goddamn pencil in the summer time is really what I want.
