Have you seen Catching Fire yet? **So** much better than the first one, which was good, but didn't fully represent the horror that the people in the districts experienced. Now I can't wait for the third installment.

I have! You know, I didn't like it as much as the first movie, tbh. But in hindsight that was probably because a) I've been so sick and by the time they got to the arena, I was ready to go home and lay down. (it's why I waited until Jan 2nd to see The Hobbit, because I wanted to go when I was feeling a little better so it wouldn't ruin it the way The Hunger Games got ruined) and b) It was suffering from 2nd book syndrome (they seem the hardest to transfer to screen, for some reason). This, in particular, had so much internal POV in the book from Katniss and it was so hard to convey that on screen. Also, you are 2/3 of the way through the book before they ever reach the arena and in the movie I felt like all of that beginning stuff was really rushed through. All of the P{TSD stuff with her and Peeta and all of the fear she lived in for months and it all felt so rushed for me. But when someone asked me, "Okay then, how as a writer, would you have done it differently?" I couldn't answer them because the truth is, it's just such a hard book to adapt. I could have used MORE revolution stuff, but then we would have had to give up something (like the stuff with President Snow and Heavensbee which I loved, holy shit I loved Heavensbee and that slow genius manipulation he was pulling off!!) and I wasn't willing to give anything up either. I think I would have liked it much better on second watch but I was too sick to go back and see it twice. The characters were pretty much spot on though - Johanna and Wiress and Beetee and Mags, who I adored in the books, were all PERFECT. (I reserve the right to judge Finnick later on because I didn't fall in love with him until book 3 anyways.) And the revolution stuff we got was AWESOME, I just wanted more. I really wish I had gotten to see it twice because I think I would have been less harsh on the second view. I have to remind myself that 2 and 3 go together like a complete set and I can't fully judge the one until I see the other. (though they are turning 3 into two movies!) I will say, there was one moment I hoped they didn't underplay because it was my favorite in the book and that was the interviews where at the end all the tributes held hands and holy fuck, that was amazing!!! And yeah, like you said, it was a much harsher movie, a much more mature movie, giving off the feeling of the change in Katniss from child to woman. I want it on DVD now so I can do a rewatch as soon as possible!

I also haven't read nearly as many books as I thought I would this year. Instead I have been reading fanfic. :D

I haven't even been reading that much fanfic! I did write a shitton this year though and I started doing art again but still, if I didn't read books and I didn't read fanfic, what have I been doing with myself?! What has my life become?! lol ;)
