Spreading Out.

It has taken me two years since The BFF initially suggested it to me, but I have finally gotten an AO3 account. I was hesitant because I have issues with being too spread out in my fandom life, having my fic in more than one place. It's a control issue. I know I didn't have it back in my early days of fandom, when everything was on Yahoo groups and this archive and that website, etc. My fics were spread out everywhere back then. In those days though, I was on the drugs and that made my control issues less of a deal than they are now. Since then, like I was looking for good Firefly fic to read that hit the sweet spot I wanted, and the place I was searching recommended my own story to me! I didn't even remember ever having put anything in that archive! So after letting the suggestion sit for two years - omg - I finally did it. I am just slowly loading my fic on there, a few a week. So far I just have three fics up - a Misha/Mike-Jared/Jensen fic, a Puckerman-centric Glee fic & a Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert fic. I will be uploading in the order that I posted to LJ, until I get all caught up.

I also started a side tumblr, as a place to vent about a lot of the day to day of the disability. I mean, I vent about the big stuff here and also updates on my health, but I wanted a place to just randomly complain about the little things. Like, why do people think my wheelchair is a coat rack? Or why do businesses put their handicap parking spots way down away from the building? Sure, the ramp is down there for wheelchair people, but wheelchairs aren't the only kind of disability. What about those of us who struggle with walking farther than we have too? Things like that and reblogs and submissions of the same kind. And helpful things like adaptive equipment and stuff. Tumblr is the first place I ever heard the words 'ableists' and ableism', so I figured it was a good place to reach others who would like a blog like this and maybe benefit from it. At least we can be 'like'-ing things in solidarity.

Anyways, here is where I am now on the Internets...
My Livejournal - Dodger_Sister.
My Fandom Tumblr - Dodger-Sister.
My Disabilities Tumblr - Disableism.
My AO3 Account - Dodger_Sister.

I'm thrilled to hear you've finally taken the plunge and got yourself an Ao3 account; it's very exiting news! I look forward to reading your work there. I go by the name: Caughtinblackseyes on that site. Welcome!

I only go to AO3 to read - and that only rarely. I can't handle posting to more than DW and LJ, and probably wouldn't even have a DW account if not for the ways that LJ sometimes fucks things up. :D

Just in case you missed it, you can upload to AO3 directly from any fic you've posted here at LJ. You'll have to futz with the coding when it goes up, since it reads everything (including LJ tags) and stuff gets out of place on AO3. But it's a thousand times better than copy and pasting, believe me.

Also, LOL you talk about posting stuff on Tumblr and having no control over it -- when my Big Bang came out (and before I was on Tumblr), there was actually someone on Tumblr who copypasted a paragraph from it and put it up their Tumblr and it got like 300 notes or something. There were a bunch of people who responded saying where the paragraph came from, which was nice, but if people are gonna steal, they will.

The AO3 tagging system is your best friend, too. If you ignore the teenagers who use the tags like they do on Tumblr and write their friggin' feelings and shit, it's the most helpful way to find fic you're looking for. I've discovered that tagging your stuff properly helps.

It's pretty much the one and only place to find reputable fic. I'm not putting fanfiction.net down (okay, maybe I am a little) but the stuff on AO3 tends to be of a higher quality.

AO3 is the first time I've been able to see hits on my fic too, which is encouraging. Who knows how many times people have read stuff here on LJ; with AO3 I can keep track for funsies.

OMG, welcome to AO3! I got it just in time for my fic muses to go into hiding for more than a year, but it IS a great place to post fic. :p I like the tagging system for searching for fics to read as well. Hope you like it too! <3

I've subscribed to your AO3 account and followed you on tumblr, though I use it hardly at all.
