Just had to go reread Twitter Mania because this thread made me all nostalgic.

I saw! It made me smile when I saw that you'd commented on it. :D

But we learn that characters can be endearingly loved by readers by having many layers and faults, by making the reader cheer for them and champion them.

Exactly. We remember that some of our own favorite characters weren't exactly perfect. *cough Dean cough* In fact, the more broken, the more I like them, so IDEK why I thought they had to be perfect when I wrote them. :p

I had never thought of it like that before but that is really good advice for a first time writer.

It is, isn't it? First time I read it I had to just take a break and go "huh. Damn, that's smart."
