Quick thoughts under the cut…
1. It’s about a teen whose grandfather has been telling him crazy stories of the orphanage full of strange children he grew up in. After his grandfather dies, the teen decides to go to the orphanage to learn more about his grandfather’s life, obviously not believing the stories are true. Of course, what he finds is very unexpected. I started this once and got jarred out of it by the sudden inclusion of timey-whimey-ness, but I decided to try again and am very glad I did. It’s about these mutant children, discoveries of the past, WWII’s struggles - (when the grandfather lived in the home) - but mostly about finding yourself, as a teenager, struggling to know who you are and where you belong. It was creepy, adventure-filled, emotional and had me guessing up until the end what course the boy would choose for his future. And though it ended at a good life choice spot, I really wanted to know what happened next. I found it has a sequel though! The best part was that the author used authentic found pictures throughout the book as the photos from the grandfather’s collection of pictures of these strange children and some of them do have me marveling that these are real photos. It added such a great element to the book and was such a unique idea, really. Highly recommend!
2. I’m rewatching season 3 - (wow, I forgot how heavy those first two episodes are). Last night was 3.4, the Oz episode of angst and damn, but his pain is So Good For Me.
3. It was a SyFy channel movie, don’t judge me! Tom Everett Scott played the President! It was a blatant rip-off of Independence Day though, right down to the speech about how this holiday was about taking back America and the world. I kept predicting what was going to happen next, joking about how I should be writing for SyFy. At one point I said, “They can just wait for us to die out,” and the character says right after me, “They can just wait for us to die out.” I started laughing so hard. Best line was the President to the teen hacker who was hacking into the Pentagon: “Aliens have invaded the world. Thumbs up to felonies.”
4. I finally downloaded it and I love it as much as I did when I used to listen to it on their website. PopTart Heart used to be my favorite, and I still love it, but Downtown Letdown is my new favorite, followed closely by Better.
5. Yes, still! I have held the high score for weeks - 457,900 - my sister can’t beat me!
6. It popped on my Flist last night, right before bed, 3 comment-fics. I’m partially to #3 myself, though they were all pretty awesome! It’s Battlestar Galactica kink and I swear, 70% of why I love Laura Roslin is all
fragrantwoods’s fault!

Date: 2013-07-09 08:00 pm (UTC)Relatedly, SyFy also has a movie called Sharknado. Its about a tornado full of sharks.
Tornado.
Full.
Of.
Sharks.
Also? Arachnoquake. After an earthquake hits, it unearths fire breathing spiders. OR: Chupacabra vs. The Alamo
My brother is a bit excitable about these things and I have them all listed in various emails he's sent me LOL

You want to know what's weird? You are not the first person to point this out to me! Because I do have an odd fascination with both tornadoes and sharks - it's like they wrote that movie for me!

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Couldn't watch Arachnoquake though. Horrid screaming nightmare fear of spiders. /shudders/ I saw the preview for it but opted to skip that one.

8)!! I love a good SyFy channel movie but tbh, they are best viewed with an audience so you can all mock and laugh at each other's ridiculous jokes and stuff. But okay, so when I wrote Apocalypse: Alien Asteroids, I wanted to make the art poster for it so I 'researched' some SyFy Channel original movie posters to base my art off of. And I found a winner...
Yep. Mansquito.

Date: 2013-07-10 11:36 pm (UTC)I always wondered that. After I wrote Apocalypse: Alien Asteroids, my sister really wanted me to look into it as she thought I'd be good at it. I guess if they did accept outside submissions they would be bombarded by every Tom, Dick and Sally thinking they could write for that channel.
You know what though? I bet their writers are actually really good. It's just that they purposefully dumb that shit down. So, tidbit you may not know, but when Misha Collins got offered the lead in Stonehenge Apocalypse, he was like, "Oh, so flattered, a lead in a movie and I can spend the summer in Vancouver! So excited!" without actually reading the script. Then he went in to a meeting there and he met a writer and was like, "Oh, so you must have written the script then?" and the woman was like, "Uh, no, I'm the writer they bring in after the script is written, you know, to dumb it down," and Misha was like 'who-what now?' because apparently he'd never seen a SyFy channel movie! At any rate, I think the script must come out good and then they purposefully have someone bring it down a few notches. (and that writer must also be good, to be able to dumb something down on purpose!) Bizarrest thing ever.

Date: 2013-07-13 09:23 pm (UTC)lol SyFy worked hard at getting that rep, man! They are the best at being the worst! ;)
Anyways, while I have you here - I need a villian that the Avengers might fight who would had possibly made his own robot army. I know it is a robot army they are going to be fighting, but when Nick Fury sends them out, he tells them that so-and-so has sent a robot army to destroy NY, but I realized I don't know as many Avengers villians as I thought. (I kept thinking of Spiderman villians instead!) Help a girl out - it's for The Nephew's fic. Thanks!

Date: 2013-07-13 10:31 pm (UTC)Ultron is a super villainous extremely powerful robot created by one of the Avengers (Hank Pym), but he's on a Galactus level of world-destroying, so you probably don't want to use him.
Victor Von Doom has had a robot army, but he's more of a Fantastic Four villain (in the movies, he was a rival for Sue Storm's affections). The Sentinels were a robot army, too, but they were specifically designed to exterminate mutants. Vision is an Avenger who's a robot, but not a villain.
You've got all of Tony's bots in the movie verse... or what about something from HAMMER corporation in Iron Man 2?

Date: 2013-07-16 01:17 am (UTC)My brain kept supplying Dr. Doom as who I wanted to use but I wasn't sure he was an Avengers villain. After that I kept thinking of Spidey baddies instead. In the end, I decided to just go with 'an army of robots' from an unknown source - it's a comedy fic for a 7 year old, it's fine. I just thought it might be cool if he was like, "Hey, I know that bad guy!" since he watches so much of the cartoons these days. But since it came out more humorous than anything, I figured it wasn't necessary.
Thanks for the help! Uh, you wouldn't have time to beta the thing for me, would you? It's about 3k in length. (I just finished it an hour ago!)

Date: 2013-07-16 02:03 am (UTC)Oh yeah, she's crazy as fuck, no doubt, but I still find her to be a fascinating character. Plus, I like the bond between her and Quicksilver and I really like how, you know, they kind of were screwed right out the gate with Magneto as a father but one day they looked up and thought, "I don't think our dad is a very good dude," and decided to go against him (of course, they went back, but whatever) and I think they could do some really good stuff with them (and with Magneto) in the movie - especially since so much of the theme of the last First Class seemed to be about making your own family and finding where you belong.
I admit to being disappointed that those two were Joss' exciting new additions to the Avengers' movie-verse. But I'll go and watch it anyway!
Wait, they are going to be in the Avengers as well? Oh. No. Okay, I wished for SW to be in the first Avengers instead of Black Widow but now I LOVE Black Widow and just, no, come on, they are already using them in First Class, why wouldn't he pick from the many, many other options of characters to use. Oh well, I'll go see it too, you know! (as long as RDjr and Ruffalo are in it!)
half of my comments keep disappearing! damn. alright, I'm done for the night. bed now. oh wait, Teen Wolf now, then bed.

Date: 2013-07-17 08:34 pm (UTC)Whichever production/series uses those two first will be the one that gets to keep them. And I know Joss wants them....
That's stupid. And First Class has already cast the roles and has been filming for like two months now. I think they win, Joss, sorry.
