Hope Is The Thing With Feathers.

Since it's National Poetry Month and also since some time back [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna challenged her followers 'to post a song or a poem that speaks to you' and I always meant to do it, but never got around to it, I'd thought I'd go ahead now and post a poem that I really like. The imagery of it, like the nature aspect that is breathed into it, is something that always strikes me with this one. I would like to pick out one of my own to post as well, if I manage to get around to it. And perhaps a song as well.

Hope is the Thing with Feathers
by Emily Dickinson

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Any of my followers that want to post a song or a poem that speaks to you, please do!

That's always been one of my favorites.

I only discovered this poem a few years ago, when I was helping a friend think of a title for her fanfic and was searching for quotes about 'Hope' and I was just immediately taken with this. It really speaks to me.

It's quite a lovely, soothing piece, isn't it?
