If you've followed me for any time, you probably know I am a Detroit Tigers fan. But maybe you didn't know, that besides the Tigers, I will watch the NY Mets. They are my National League team and my New York team. And they play on TBS with enough regularity that I can catch a game or three a season. The Mets have been kind of the NY underdog, since the Yankees became the powerhouse that they are, and I like a good underdog.

So obviously, I was thrilled when the Mets made it to the playoffs this year. (The Tigers did not. Not even close. The Tigers were so far back they couldn't see the playoffs with a pair of binoculars.). So yeah, this year on the National League side, it's the Mets vs The Cubs. On the American League side - the league the Tigers are in - it is the Kansas City Royals vs the Toronto Blue Jays. I'm rooting for the Blue Jays in the ALS - it's been 20+ years since the Jays took a World Series win and anyways, my other choice is the Royals and they are the Tigers' division nemesis, I can't root for the Royals. I was really kind of hoping for a Mets/Blue Jays World Series.

But then I got to thinking - it's been over a hundred years since the Chicago Cubs won a World Series. The last time they took home the title was 1908. 1908. And then it was pointed out to me - by [livejournal.com profile] rockstarpeach - that in Back To The Future 2, they go forward to the year 2015 and the winners of the 2015 World Series are The Chicago Cubs. I'm sorry, I love my Mets, I do, but it was predestined by Back To The Future that the Cubs should win this thing this year. So, yeah, I changed my votes. I want a Cubs/Royals series and I want the Cubs to stomp the Royals and win the Series and I want Back To The Future to have been right all along, (And hey, in case you didn't realize, today, October the 21st, is the date they go forward to in BTTF2!)

Anyways, once I decided I wanted the Cubs to take the National League title from the Mets and go on to win this whole thing, of course the Mets then started stomping the Cubs and now I am in the middle of watching a game where if the Mets win it, they go on to the World Series and leave the Cubs in the dust and the Mets are way up on the Cubs right now and I don't see how Chicago can pull this out. Dammit, guys, as soon as I turn my back on my Mets for you, you can't deliver? Come on!

Anyways, I'll take anyone but the Royals at this point. And, per usual, as long as it isn't the fucking Yankees.

eta: The game is over. The Cubs lost. Sorry, Cubs. Maybe next year? THE METS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!! LET'S GO METS!!

The goat always wins. :P

As much as you love your boys of summer, have you ever written baseball RPF? Just wondering....

That fucking goat, man. Fuck that goat.

You know, I never have. Some of them can be really cute together too, but as soon as I start to find myself like broshipping in any way (my precursor to relation-shipping - I stop myself. Because we trade our guys at the drop of a hat and it will only leave me heartbroken (it usually does anyways, I just get attached and they are gone). Like Miguel and Prince - they were adorbs together, had a secret handshake and everything. I kinda thought about writing them some fic and then bam, Prince is gone.

Back in my day - /shakes stick/ - we didn't trade like this. We kept the same guys, we got a team to learn to work together, it was a family. They don't do that anymore.

But if I had known about slash-fic (or fanfic in general) or even the concept of friendship-fic as a kid, I am sure I would have. The 1980s saw a Tigers team that not only took World Series, but stole hearts as well. They were a family. And my two boys - the second base/shortstop double play combo - Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker would have been at the top of my list. I am still in love with them as players, people and a combo team we have never seen the likes of since.

But, no. I've never written baseball RPF. ;)

I really wanted to Cubbies to at least get to the Series. Just for overturning the legend, and confirming BttFII's predictions!

Too many things are way too transient these days. No one seems willing to be in things for the long haul; everyone wants instant gratification. Well, screw that shit. Success takes hard work and a bit of luck and lots of determination and NO WHINING. *pants* (I might be thinking of my lazy ass students.)

I love how much you still love your long-lost players.

I am ready for the Mets to stomp the Royals! I mean, I would have liked to seen the Blue Jays up in here, but it would have been hard to root against them, I do like the Jays.

But since the Jays are out and The Tigers' nemesis The Royals are in - LET'S GO METS!!! STOMP 'EM!! DEATH, DEATH, DEATH!!

Oh, I don't want to hear it.

Freakin' Cubs. *grumble*

And no, no not LET'S GO METS. Because they'll be facing the Jays and the Jays clearly have to win. My hat says so (because two weeks ago I promised not to take it off until the Jays win the World Series and it's starting to make my hair wonky. I can't keep this up another year).

Hashtag: never say die.

ETA: Okay fine, Let's go Mets. Anybody but KC. I know everyone loves to hate on the Yankees, but ever since KC beat TO for the ALCS back in 85, I've been holding a grudge.

I'm just gonna straight up say that the Yankees are still the devil, okay.

But I cannot wait for the Mets to stomp the shit out the Royals. I hope they slaughter them and sweep them and maybe invite them over for dinner and them eat them!!

So...you still wearing the hat then? (It would have been hard to root against your Blue Jays, I like them. I mean, I would have, for sure - let's go mets - but still, it would have been hard).
