At Last, At Last...

Well, it's been just over two weeks since I got back...so now it is finally time to write up my Vacation Post!! (considering it took 6 months to put up pictures of my tattoo, I feel like I am growing as a person here!)
We started out on Thursday morning, with a hearty piece of advice from
liptonrm's dad to not live off of junk food the whole trip. Silly man, we also lived off Tim Horton's, as we were heading through Canada. It became a bit of a running joke that we kept eating at Tim Horton's because they were as plentiful as Wendys or Burger King here. (quite yummy too - shut up,
liptonrm, I am not craving their sandwiches yet - okay, maybe a little!)
Thursday kind of sucked for driving, as we got stuck just outside of Toronto for about two hours, in standstill traffic. We were unaware that Friday was Canada Day - (ya'll just wanted a three day weekend too, eh?) - and so even though it was well after rush hour, it looked like everyone had gone home, dropped their briefcases, picked up their suitcases and were back on the road again for their holiday. This did however give me time to come up with a Dean/Cas time travel story that takes them back to the 1940's - (mostly I just want them to wear the clothes) - and being all they have there is each other...yeah, you can see where that is going.
I told you we would talk about Dean/Cas on our roadtrip.
Also, The BFF made a splendid music mix, which I call The Roadtrip Mix: Canadian Edition - because it starts with the perfectly selected, "Blame Canada". It also has this amazing song by Old Crow Medicine Show called Wagon Wheel that I have become quite obsessed with and the Bree Sharp version of Boys of Summer which has really grown on me and then lots of fast-pace-driving-with-the-top-down-esque music. Excellent mix.
On Friday, the driving went much better and we discussed important things like the X-Men Civil War and how Jon Stewart Will Save Us All. We also discovered that all public places in Canada have handicapped-door-opening-buttons on them and also that Canadians are really nice and rush to open the door for you. (It almost sounds like I like Canada!)
We arrived on Friday around dinner time and after I called my friend to say we had gotten there, he came up to the room. Slowly, all of the guests - (there were about ten) - filed into our room. I hadn't seen his sister since she was about 14 - (and all stick figure little girl following us around like we were the coolest kids ever, lol) - and now she is 24 and has boobs and is engaged and working a good job and everything. She came in the room and gave me a huge hug and I was so happy to see her. Then we had embarrassing conversations about how we met - (I was trying to make a movie and D answered an audition call and when the movie fell through, he just kept showing up at my house asking me if I wanted to hang out, lol) - and how we used to make mock-Jerry-Springer-episodes with my camera - (much to our horror, the little sister admitted to still having these on VHS tape) - and how once we were fucked out of our heads drinking fire whiskey - (still my favorite thing ever) - and we accidentally set the pant leg of our friend - (who was passed out at the time) - on fire.
Basically, we told stories about we were dumb-ass kids who are lucky to have come out as good as we did.
On Saturday, we got up and went across the street to eat at this cute little family place that was clearly run by Irish Hippies - (the best kind of hippies, if I do say so myself) - because all of the merchandise you could buy with their logo all had peace signs crossed with a shamrock and the store name, and said things like "Irish Peace and Love". Then we went downtown and sadly, most of the storefronts had steps going up into them, which I can't do, but we did go inside an old bookstore where I bought prezzies for the niece and nephew. Then we rode out to Ben & Jerry's - (originally from Vermont) - and looked around there for a bit. We didn't have time to go on the tour because we had to get back for the wedding, but we bought important things like Moose Droppings - (maple candy) - for my dad and a B&J shotglass for my sister.
I have decided to cut this into two parts, as you don't really need 1,500 words about my trip in one go, do you? Plus, I have fic to read now! Okay then.
Vacation Post - Part Deux: The Battle At Hogwarts.

Date: 2011-07-21 11:04 am (UTC)That Bree Sharp track is really good. I've never heard that version of Boys of Summer (an excellent song btw) before. I do love me a good road trip mix and it sounds like yours was a winner.
So, when do we get to see this Dean/Cass 1940's thing? Cos I for one would love to see the two of them against the backdrop of WWII with the depredations of war and all that soft-focus longing the era evokes.

Date: 2011-07-23 01:37 am (UTC)Especially the reminiscing about your mis-spent youth! lol
I didn't even tell the story about how he used to hang upside down (man, that boy was flexible) from my open-arched doorway like some sort of crazed acrobat. You know, just for fun.
I love Boys of Summer and the first time I heard this cover I was a little jarred, because I am so used to the original, but it really grew on me and now I am a bit obsessed.

See, when you say it like that, it really makes me want to write it! But I have a feeling it would involve a lot of research and knowledge and you know how lazy I am - (the fic I researched the most was the Dean-writes-Glee-fanfic story and that was too much for my liking, lol). I know exactly where I want to end it but I have no solid thought on how they get there. I mean, to make the need for them to get back to their own time seem more urgent, I must have something actually happening in the past and I can't figure out what. Writing is hard, yo.

Date: 2011-08-02 04:32 am (UTC)Dean meets women, but he won't do more than flirt because he says it's not fair to them, since he isn't planning on staying in this time - like some sort of desperate attempt to convince himself that they will make it back to present day - so even whe Dean is out at the bar, he always comes home and gets in bed with Cas before the end of the night.
Somehow they get home again. Cas (apparently human and now changed from his experience) goes to live with Bobby, while Dean and Sam go hunting on the road. Sam realizes Dean isn't sleeping at night and wants to talk about it but Dean shuts him down. Finally Sam asks, "Are you missing someone from back then?" and Dean looks at the empty space on the other side of the bed and realizes who he is missing.
When they get to Bobby's, he corners Cas, who doesn't want to really look at him. Cas is all, "You look unwell," and Dean is all, "I haven't really been sleeping," and Cas - being as straight forward and unfiltered as he is - says, "Me neither. I can't sleep without you next to me," and Dean is all, "Jesus christ, Cas, who says stuff like that?" and Cas does his usual Cas thing and tries to just disappear (which for a human means pushing his way past Dean) but Dean grabs him and shoves him against the wall and is all, "You said I wasn't alone, Cas. You said I still had you," and then there is kissing.
--And that night, with Cas stretched out beside him, Dean's right arm draped casually across Cas' hipbone and the steady breathing of the other man filling the room, Dean sleeps better than he has in years.--
The End.
See...I have it all plotted out, but wouldn't that be like a really long, plotty, researchy type fic? Ugh. Why can't my brain just magically make these things happen?

Date: 2011-08-03 12:57 pm (UTC)*clears throat* yes, it could involve all kinds of research. On the other hand, this right here? just the way it is? is a beautiful story. No kidding, if you really want to write it, you probably could get around doing any more research than maybe place names and clothes (and we know what a hardship the clothing research would be for you *g*).
It wouldn't have to be something epic, it could be a quiet little thing full of the desperate emotions of both wartime on the home front and two people displaced in time.

What are you saying? That I am a clothes-whore? Oh. Right. ;)

See, you say things like this and you make it sound do-able, even though pretty much anything over 1,000 words is epic to me these days. Man, the NeverEnding List Of Fics is so huge, I feel like it takes up half of my harddrive. I actually had a moment of insanity where I thought I could maybe write this for the next Dean/Cas Big Bang. Stop encouraging me with love and support, dammit! ;)

Date: 2011-08-05 11:02 am (UTC)Well, if you flesh it out or not, the part you posted here is enough to make a lovely story in my brain that I can go over while driving or whatever, so thank you.
