Ficage In May.

Finally getting around to last month’s word count. May was a really good month for writing, thanks to two birthdays of my most favorite people in the world - The Nephew and The BFF. One of the fics I worked on last month was The Nephew’s birthday fic which got a great response from him - he wants me to write him another one. The other fic I worked on last month was The BFF’s fic and no, it is not done yet. I have now reached 6,200 words on the thing and I think I have finally reached the halfway mark on this sucker.
Here is my approximate word count for the month.
May, 2012
Week One: 850 words of Avengers Action fic.
Week Two: 1,550 words of Avengers Action fic. Completed. (already posted!)
Week Three: 2,400 words of Secret Crossover fic.
Week Four: 2,050 words of Secret Crossover fic.
Week Five: 650 words of Secret Crossover fic.
7,500 words written in May!
May, 2010
He Was Still Just Rosenbaum
Jared’s having a bad day. The boys want to help. Michael is an idiot. Wow, okay, worst summary ever but I still am rather fond of this story. It was the first fic I ever posted to my Livejournal and if I recall correctly, it was also my first Mike/Misha story ever. I was having a bad week, so it got a little heavier than I had originally intended but I actually kind of like that about it. Plus, Jared tripping was fun to write. Heads up though - this is the story I made the tag ‘warning - drug use’ for.
May, 2011
The Battle of the Bubbles
Sam comes home sick and finds Dean in a compromised position. Totally not what the summary makes it sound like because this fic is rated “G” and is completely “gen” but still…I love its adorable face. That’s right, my fic has an adorable face. Dean in a bubble bath playing with toys and taking care of a sick!Sam - need I say more? Okay then.
And I Don’t Mean To
Dean is upset about something. Sam is determined to find out what. I love nothing more in this world than writing wee!chesters. This was my mathom to my Flist on my Hobbit coming-of-age. I think this is one of my favorite things I have ever written (I know, I love all my fics but I really love this one a lot). It’s sweet and a little sad and the boys are such good brothers. Inspired by the quotes, “Don’t you leave him! they said to me. Leave him! I said. I never mean to. I am going with him, if he climbs to the Moon, and if any of those Black Riders try to stop him, they’ll have Sam Gamgee to reckon with, I said.”…and, “You saved my life, over and over. I mean, you sacrifice everything for me, don’t you think I’d do the same thing for you? You’re my big brother. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you.” Spoilers for The Lord Of The Rings.
I think for The Nephew’s ‘back to school’ fic at the end of the summer - (I told him he had to wait until then for me to write him another) - I will try a little Spiderman & Friends, otherwise known in my head as “The Grand Adventures of Bobby and Peter.” I was thinking a little fic where Iceman and Spiderman meet in high school and proceed to fight crime together. I am hoping I can write it for kids and still appeal to the HS AU crowd, but we’ll see.

Date: 2012-06-21 08:20 pm (UTC)Thanks, babe! My word count was really rewarding last month.
Every month I go to do one of these posts, I look up and realize the month is half over with and I still haven't done it yet. Maybe I am stuck in the time bubble too? You should totally do a monthly word count. The thing that makes it easier for me to keep track of is that I have a word document titled 'word count' on it and every time I write more words, I just open it real quick and make a note of '700 h50 fic'. It makes it much easier come time to make one of these posts.
I would be very curious to see how much you write each month. I have a friend who does one of these counts and she counts things like personal letters, essays, episode reviews - so even if you aren't writing a ton of fic, you could count all of those things because any writing is creative writing.
No one had ever read that Mike/Misha fic! I had like five LJ friends at the time, maybe, cuz I hadn't even been LJ-ing yet for two weeks even. And it was my first post of a CW RPS fic, so no one in that fandom knew my name yet. Actually it was my first LJ fic post, so no one on LJ really knew my name yet. I felt bad for my little story that it didn't get ebnough play.

That is a travesty! There isn't enough Mike/Misha in the world, and that one was awesome! Poor little fic. *pats fic* I don't think my first fic got that many reads either. Could be because I gave the Winchesters a sister and wrote it in first person POV... :P

Awww, thanks, babe!

Yeah, nobody takes Winsister-fic very seriously, I am afraid. Now I am racking my brain trying to remember what the first fic of yours was I ever read. I think it was "Twitter Mania". I had my LJ about three weeks at the time you posted that.

Yeah, nobody takes Winsister-fic very seriously, I am afraid.
Haha, no, I know. I think I went pretty Mary Sue on it, too, but whatevs, it was one of the first stories I ever actually FINISHED, so yay. :) Oh, "Twitter Mania", huh? I hardly remember what that's about... wait, is that the one where the CW fire Misha for his relationship with Jensen? And then SPN gets cancelled? OK, I remember. :p I remember that the first fic I read by you was a CK/Jensen fic you wrote for Annie's birthday. There were blowjobs. :) And then we totally hi-jacked one of Annie's posts with our comment conversations. I guess we've evolved now that we're just doing it on our own journals. ;)

Date: 2012-06-28 07:20 pm (UTC)Oh man, long before I got the internet and entered fandom, I used to write original stories and they were all so Mary-Sue it was ridiculous. And self-inserty. I think it is how most writers start actually.
Oh, "Twitter Mania", huh? I hardly remember what that's about... wait, is that the one where the CW fire Misha for his relationship with Jensen?
Yep, that's the one! I loved that one.

The Name Game! I hadn't written porn in so long when I tackled that one. I knew we met through Annie but I wasn't sure exactly how.

ahahaha We totally did. Yes, we have evolved now. lol

Date: 2012-08-02 01:45 am (UTC)I guess it's because we want them to be awesome and amazing and stuff, and in the beginning we think the only way to get them to be like that is to make them perfect pod-people or something.
That is true. But we learn that characters can be endearingly loved by readers by having many layers and faults, by making the reader cheer for them and champion them.
What you need to remember is that you've spent years cultivating your literary tastes, so you should spend years cultivating your writing before you get to think it sucks.
Oooooh, your writing book has a good point. I had never thought of it like that before but that is really good advice for a first time writer.
Point is, everything is awesome and I just got back from ten days in the Swedish mountains.
That sounds lovely! Glad it was a good time.

Exactly. We remember that some of our own favorite characters weren't exactly perfect. *cough Dean cough* In fact, the more broken, the more I like them, so IDEK why I thought they had to be perfect when I wrote them. :p
I had never thought of it like that before but that is really good advice for a first time writer.
It is, isn't it? First time I read it I had to just take a break and go "huh. Damn, that's smart."
