This Is Why Democracy Doesn’t Work.

dodger_sisterDon’t worry, this isn’t a post about politics. Though the American people’s inability to get a thing like voting on So You Think You Can Dance right, does have me worried about the upcoming presidential election. Because, come on people…really? Just…no.
- I am still reeling over the loss of Lindsey and Will the week before. In the Lindsey vs. Witney scene - (because how many fresh-faced young blonde ballroom dancers do you need on one show?) - I think they absolutely made the wrong choice. Witney has one thing going for her and that is sex appeal. But Lindsey is a better dancer who was able to hold her own in all the various styles, something which I felt Witney wasn’t able to do. Lindsey was just a more mature dancer. And Will - don’t even get me started at the stupidity of that. Okay. He got eliminated off his Bollywood number which is so stupid because it was the perfect routine for him. It was possibly my favorite routine of his all season and that is saying something. Will is fucking made for Bollywood, with his enthusiasm and his energy and his feet. I don’t even understand how he got cut based on that routine.
- Tiffany’s Jive this week was AMAZEBALLS. Though the problem with the All-Stars is that I have a hard time sometimes keeping my eyes on the contestants and not the All-Stars. That Benji dude, holy shit, his legs were just unbelievable to watch. He was spectacular. And Tiffany held her own against him which is just awesome. I never saw this girl coming but here she is, right at the end.
- Chehon’s solo was fantastic this week. His solos always are but…just wow. I disagreed with the judges about his partner dance though. I thought it was amazing and perfect and I didn’t see what it was they were talking about because I loved it. I feel like Chehon has come out of nowhere to kill this thing dead. Also, I love his personal back-story - (something I rarely care about with the dancers) - and I love his adorable mother and I wonder how much that affected his beautiful dance number with Katherine. I was just struck by Tyce crying over it.
- What was with that Mr. Postman number? It was fine but it feels to me like so many of the hip-hop numbers have been so light this year. I mean, that barely even felt like hip-hop to me. Idk, I like my hip-hop to feel raw, you know. When I am done watching a hip-hop number, I should feel like I want to have sweaty sex in a dirty alley with the dancers and if I don’t, you did something wrong.
- I was literally clenching my fists in anticipation of who was going to be eliminated. I started clapping when Tiffany got in - (holy shit, is she going to give Eliana a run for her money) - and then I just started yelling, “Yes! Yes! Yes!” over and over when Eliana made it in. That was so the right call to cut Witney. But then they did the guys and I almost started sobbing with joy when they said Chehon made the cut. I was so sure Cole was in that I wasn‘t even that worried because come on, they clearly left it down to Cole and Cyrus for the climatic effect, right? I was stunned beyond belief when Cole got cut. OUTRAGED!! At the end, after they showed Cole’s reel, did you see Chehon covering his face and how shocked all the other dancers looked? Who noticed they gave Cyrus another hip-hop routine this week? Tell me this shit isn’t rigged. And it sucks because I liked Cyrus at the beginning but I am so bitter now. The BFF said that they seem to be rating everyone on a SYTYCD-scale and then rating Cyrus on a Cyrus-scale. Like, “Oh, well that wasn’t great by other dancers’ standards but by Cyrus’ abilities that was amazing.” I agree with her, but it's just such bullshit. I had Cole pegged to win this thing. If Chehon doesn’t win now, I will be royally pissed. I feel kind of cheated by this season. On the upside for Cole, he has such a unique style that choreographers will be scrambling to get to him. I could see someone making a whole performance-show based around his style. I think it is a great style to show young kids who have never thought about dancing because it takes something like martial arts and infuses dance into it in a way that maybe makes it more accessible.
I’m just sayin’…if this is the way America votes, our country is doomed.

And when it came down to Cyrus vs Cole I was like okay, I voted for Cole, he's clearly the more talented of the two. The fact that Cyrus got through pissed me off to no end. If Cyrus wins this thing I will probably stop watching. It didn't use to be a popularity contest so very much. Or uh, completely rigged? Definitely.

Date: 2012-09-12 07:18 pm (UTC)He totally is! He has a great personal story and he struggled at the beginning to hold his own under the pressure I think but he has really shined through as of late and he just seems like such a wonderful guy.
okay, I voted for Cole, he's clearly the more talented of the two.
I really feel like Cole is the best male dancer the show had this year and that he is above the other guys by a few rungs of the ladder. Idk how he isn't winning this thing.

I almost feel like that too, that I will be so pissed off that I may stop watching. This whole season feels like such a letdown after the amazing and unbelievable season we got last summer. Yes, it's always been billed as "America's favorite dancer" but Nigel used that, the word 'favorite', as an excuse for why Cyrus was still in it. Which he is right on that count (Cyrus is America's favorite, it seems) but I feel like it is such a cop-out. Because okay, the judges may have chose to cut Cyrus but in order for them to even have that option, America has to vote him in to the bottom three and they never did - and it PISSES me off. But the showrunners are not free of fault because they keep giving Cyrus routines that play to his strengths, giving the voters a free pass to vote for him that way. Did we even see Cyrus do a Latin dance at all? Hasn't every one of his last five show routines had some form of his style infused into it (which no one else gets for their styles!). Ugh. I dread the results of the final showdown.

Date: 2012-09-12 07:32 pm (UTC)I know the first ballroom dance he did, he did rather poorly. I thought that would be the last we saw of him, to be honest. But I thought he has done well with the latin dances and I don't know why the judges didn't like it. They have a thing about how he is so rigid but I think in some of the Latin dances (like the tango and such) that can be an assest. I mean, I love Chehon personally but as a dancer I feel like, 'yes' he deserved to be in the top ten but 'no' he probably shouldn't win this thing - except of course, up against Cyrus, oh 'hell yes' Chehon should win this thing. I really thought we would come down to Will and Cole in the end, so this is a huge shock to me.
and Cyrus doesn't have the same effect as Twitch???
Not even close. Of course, Twitch is one of the best dancers they have ever had on the show and versatile in his styles, even without considering he was a hip-hop dancer. But you know, they did those Mary Murphy past routines a few weeks back and Cyrus had to do a routine that Twith had done in the past and it was so painfully obvious that Cyrus is NO Twitch.
But even with my bitter feels, I'm looking forward to watching their tour when they go through my city~
Girl, I didn't even know you watched SYTYCD and here you are hardcore enough to go to the tour! That's AWESOME. I really have no desire to see this year's tour (it comes to Detroit, so not to far to go if I wanted to). Last year I really wanted to and so did The BFF but money was tight and we ended up not getting tickets, which turned out to be a good thing because that was right when I had that seizure and I would have had to waste the tickets but, idk, I just don't have the same pull to go this year. Maybe next season will be better.

I didn't really see much of Cyrus, but it's slightly disappointing that the judges/producers totally have the show rigged. Yes, the only thing about seasons is that reality shows tend to wear with time and the talent might be stretched thinner each year? idk like the freshness has gone away a lot for me in the show.

I definitely feel like that about this season. I didn't last season though. I almost feel like they are making it a crappy season this year on purpose so that next year, for the tenth season, they can have a spectacle of awesome proportions. I know that's not true, but it feels like it.

Have we seen him do ballroom? If we did it was so un-ballroom that I don't remember it.
I think we may have seen him do one, pre-Top Ten. I know the judges can say, "Oh well, we can't cut someone that America didn't vote into the bottom three," but that doesn't excuse the fact that the choreographers/showrunners have been slowing everything down for him and infusing Cyrus' style into all his routines and like you said, holding his hand all the way through.
I shudder to think what the finale results will be. America! You're officially on notice!
