So, first, let me explain my family dynamics a little. I have double-cousins. Two brothers married two sisters (as in, my dad's older brother married my mom's younger sister). Mom and Dad had four kids - aunt and uncle had four kids. And we were practically raised together. There was a lot of "you take the girls tonight and I'll take the boys," or "you take the older set and I'll take the younger."

So, we were all pretty close growing up and we joke that our DNA would surprise a CSI guy, if we were ever horribly murdered by each other.

So, I consider this girl my niece, but on the off chance I ever actually talk about my Canadian brother's kid in this LJ, we'll just call her the Little Girl Cousin (not to be confused with The Cousin, who is a girl, but is fifteen and thus not little.)

The Little Girl Cousin is six.

She is having a sleepover in our living room tonight with The Nephew and every other word out of this kid's mouth is "Avatar"

Avatar, Avatar, Avatar.

"Oh," I said, "I've only seen the first four episodes. I just started it."

"No, not that Avatar!"

"I know which Avatar you mean. I have it in my room."

/Little Girl Cousin rolls her eyes/ "No, not the one with those blue people and the trees. I mean the good Avatar! With Sokka. I love Sokka. He's my favorite. Do you know Sokka?"

Then later, she asks if Atreyu from The Never-Ending Story is a girl and I said, "No, he just has pretty hair. Doesn't he have pretty hair?"

"Yeah. Like Spencer from ICarly. He has pretty hair like a girl."

Then later, she sees my Supernatural stuff in my room and says, "Hey, you like Sam and Dean?"

"Yes, I love them."

"Me too. They're cool with like demons and all kinds of stuff! Hey, you have Harry Potter too! And Batman!"

(It's not like she's never been in my room before, lol.)

Anyway, I usually buy something for her older brother when I go to SPN convention, but I think she's old enough now to get her very first Sam and Dean t-shirt.

I was also told by her older brother that I need to hurry up with his season one of Avatar, he's "gonna need that back real quick". Ten year olds, sheesh.

PS - Does it bother anyone else that the RockBiter in The Never-Ending Story is made of rocks and yet he eats rocks too? Isn't that cannibalism? In a children's movie? Just sayin'.

How is she six already? I feel like I haven't seen her in forever! She and the Nephew are both growing up so fast!

Also, she's totally right and Sokka is awesome. But Toph is awesomer. I can't wait till you get to season 2 and meet Toph. I seriously have to buy those dvds.

It's so awesome that you and your sister are so good at indoctrinating the younger generation. I can only hope to follow your example once my own brothers start to procreate. All shall watch The Neverending Story and despair!!!!

Your brothers need to get on that! You have great wisdom to pass onto the next generation. Hopefully by the time she hits high school, her mother will be less insane about, well, everything and we will be able to have her over enough to watch The X-Files. (Hey maybe we can do that with B once she gets her driver's license.)

The Nephew is so tall, he comes up to my chest almost, it's getting ridiculous. Who told him he could grow, especially when I am just getting shorter!

I love Sokka, but I'm really feeling for Zuko and I've been told to "wait for it, he's awesome". (<--can you tell whether I got that from the adult or from the kid in that family?)

Man, I can't wait to introduce a new generation to The X-Files. Did you know that my youngest brother thinks it's a boring show! And he's the one I thought I could rely on!

Zuko's story is good, and he does get more and more awesome (and I bet it was the adult in that family who told you that;-). And I totally would've been a Katara/Zuko shipper if I'd ever been in the fandom. But, for my money, Uncle Iroh is the bomb. I want to drink tea with him forever.

BTW, what am I still doing up? It's, like, almost 11PM! I'm practically a vampire, or something!

First couple episodes I was all "oh well the thing with Aangh (and no, I'm not going to look up how to spell these ridiculous names, you know who I mean) and Katara is cute" but as soon as they left on their quest and Sokka was all grouchygrouchypants about Aangh, I was like, "Ha! I found slash in a children's cartoon!" (and was oddly proud of myself.) But since then, I just want to write Zuko and his Uncle on their ship (like, hmmm, I wonder if there are stories about the two years they have previously spent looking for The Avatar on that ship together - but not in a incestuous way, just to be clear.) Also, there is a scene where they both comfort Aangh where I was like "Poor dogboy's blind dead girlfriend." It made total sense, except Sokka wouldn't get as huggy as Alec is willing to.

Your little brother disappoints me. I'm shocked. He didn't say something douchey like, "I don't like space" though, did he? (I know it's not space, but it's aliens, and you know)

I complain a lot about how much of my family lives/works within walking distance of me - but I would kill for The Cousin to live in this neighborhood. We could watch some Buffy/Angel together everyday - she needs some Buffy/Angel. Maybe over Christmas break, we can do Firefly with D - if my aunt ever returns them (I know she's all mad crush on Rosenbaum's boyfriend Mal Reynolds, but damn woman, I need my husband Jayne back!)

Why are you still up? More importantly, why are the children still up? The Sister has already fallen asleep, only to be woken by them and their giggling/rolling around once. I just had to go out there and threaten that if they woke her up again, I would seperate them. Little Girl Cousin is old enough to sleep in the scary basement by herself, dammit!
