Media Meme!

So, I clearly have not come anywhere near my book-reading goal for the year, but I did re-read Catching Fire, so it's time for another Media Meme! I had hoped to read one more book by the end of the year, but since that's just a few days away, I doubt it will happen. How did the year come and go so quickly...damn. I'm trying to catch up on internet things this weekend (and writing - I only have 3k left to go to hit my 100k mark for the year!) but idk, maybe I can sneak a book in there somewhere. Anyways...here we go:
1. What was the last book you read? - Catching Fire!
2. What was the last TV show you watched? - The Fosters. (rewatched the summer finale in preparation for the winter season starting up).
3. What was the last movie you watched? - Volcano. (
shirebound, I did end up putting it in after we talked last night).
4. What was the last album you listened to? - Demons Are Angels Too. (my Christmas at Caritas mix).
5. What was the last video game you played? - Bejeweled Blitz. (clearly this answer is never going to change).
Bonus Round: What was the last fanfic you read? Haven't read much since I got sick, but this one I read and can highly recommend: Five Secrets The Agents Of SHIELD Are Keeping and One They're Not. (little snippets from each of the characters).
Alright, off for dinner! Hopefully catching up on comments and Flist this weekend.

Date: 2014-01-07 09:03 pm (UTC)Don't forget the lava bombs too! lol Since we are currently stuck in apocalyptic temperatures, last night we decided to watch The Day After Tomorrow, (it's ironic) which is ridiculously fun and stupid, but the best scene is the multiple tornadoes in Los Angeles and all I could think was, "Between the volcano under it and the twisters in it, LA can't catch a break in a natural disaster flick!"

5. I don't play video games. I guess you could count the Zoo game on Facebook, which I last played nearly two years ago. But I wouldn't count it, myself.
You rec'ced me! Thank you!
Enjoy dinner, and congratulations on writing SO MUCH this year! (You'll probably get to your 100,000 words.)

Zoo game totally counts, but wow, two years ago? You don't even have little app games on your phone like Angry Birds for when you are stuck waiting in line or a waiting room somewhere? Damn.
You rec'ced me! Thank you!
You are very welcome! I loved that fic! In the stuper that I am in from The Sickness (new name for this crud, stolen from The Nephew who kept telling me that the dwarves were getting The Sickness over Smaug's gold) - but with this crud I can barely keep track of what I am doing from day to day, let alone remember fic I read in bed in the middle of the night, but I remembered your fic for damn sure. I think being good enough to break through my foggy haze is def a compliment, let alone that I've actually being using my limited brain power to think a lot about Jemma's section and my own thinky thoughts on the matter. Good stuff, that was.

I DID, I DID!! I fell like 800 words short last year and I wasn't going to get so close this year and not make it, bronchitis be damned! I paid for it though on New Years Day - did way to much with myself. Still, 100k!!!! I am very happy!

OMG YOU ROCK LIKE A MAD ROCKING WRITING THING, ONGRATULATIONS AND HOLY CRAP, YOU MUST BE SO DAMNED PROUD!

Date: 2014-01-12 10:20 pm (UTC)I have! You know, I didn't like it as much as the first movie, tbh. But in hindsight that was probably because a) I've been so sick and by the time they got to the arena, I was ready to go home and lay down. (it's why I waited until Jan 2nd to see The Hobbit, because I wanted to go when I was feeling a little better so it wouldn't ruin it the way The Hunger Games got ruined) and b) It was suffering from 2nd book syndrome (they seem the hardest to transfer to screen, for some reason). This, in particular, had so much internal POV in the book from Katniss and it was so hard to convey that on screen. Also, you are 2/3 of the way through the book before they ever reach the arena and in the movie I felt like all of that beginning stuff was really rushed through. All of the P{TSD stuff with her and Peeta and all of the fear she lived in for months and it all felt so rushed for me. But when someone asked me, "Okay then, how as a writer, would you have done it differently?" I couldn't answer them because the truth is, it's just such a hard book to adapt. I could have used MORE revolution stuff, but then we would have had to give up something (like the stuff with President Snow and Heavensbee which I loved, holy shit I loved Heavensbee and that slow genius manipulation he was pulling off!!) and I wasn't willing to give anything up either. I think I would have liked it much better on second watch but I was too sick to go back and see it twice. The characters were pretty much spot on though - Johanna and Wiress and Beetee and Mags, who I adored in the books, were all PERFECT. (I reserve the right to judge Finnick later on because I didn't fall in love with him until book 3 anyways.) And the revolution stuff we got was AWESOME, I just wanted more. I really wish I had gotten to see it twice because I think I would have been less harsh on the second view. I have to remind myself that 2 and 3 go together like a complete set and I can't fully judge the one until I see the other. (though they are turning 3 into two movies!) I will say, there was one moment I hoped they didn't underplay because it was my favorite in the book and that was the interviews where at the end all the tributes held hands and holy fuck, that was amazing!!! And yeah, like you said, it was a much harsher movie, a much more mature movie, giving off the feeling of the change in Katniss from child to woman. I want it on DVD now so I can do a rewatch as soon as possible!

I haven't even been reading that much fanfic! I did write a shitton this year though and I started doing art again but still, if I didn't read books and I didn't read fanfic, what have I been doing with myself?! What has my life become?! lol ;)
