This Thing Called Life.
May. 8th, 2014 10:52 pmQuick update for you all on last week...2 ambulance rides, a couple days in the hospital, severe dizziness, nausea, fatigue, 6 different tests, 5 different doctors, 4 different possible diagnoses, 2 new medicines and now I'm home. Best guess is that I had a UTI that slammed into me on Saturday and caused me to pass out while I was peeing and then kicked in two days later with The Tilting Virus (tm). Some of you may remember when I had this virus a few years ago. I've learned the official name now but damned if I can spell it, but apparently it is a virus that causes inflammation in the inner ears and messes up the signals to the brain. If it is this virus and it is anything like last time, this is going to stick around for a few more weeks. My mom's been coming over every day to help me to the bathroom and get anything I need, because even though the dizziness is getting less, my balance is still really off when I try to walk. The nausea has been pretty bad too and the anti-dizziness meds make me all jittery. I'll be happy when I get to the point where I can at least sit up on the couch and type on my IPad for a little bit each day, instead of finger-typing on the screenboard from bed like I'm doing now. The only thing any of the doctors can agree on is that whatever this is isn't neurological. I passed all those tests and my brain scan looks good. I follow up with my GP next week, as well as trying to go back to physical therapy. I really need the PT after two weeks of being bedridden, but I don't look forward to trying to get myself together to go.
ION...I've been trying out The 100. Anybody else? I'm still making up my mind on it. Also, I am behind on Arrow, but Agents of Shield has been blowing me away! And I just saw last week's Hawaii Five-O and even though I am a Steve/Danny shipper, I am also a huge Catherine-girl, so I am having some feelings. Oh, and the new season of Orphan Black has been fabulous. Alison and Felix's friendship is my favorite thing on that show!
Recently I've also watched some movies - Tropic Thunder, which was pretty funny and had surprise!Jay Baruchel in it, which I didn't expect. It was funny! No 'This Is The End', but nothing is. I recommend it if you like Ben Stiller type movies and Robert Downey JR being awesome. I also watched Monsters and I really liked both the main characters, but I was very upset about the ending...I had dreams where it had a different ending, because I was upset even in my sleep. It was more a character driven movie and though I enjoyed it and really loved the world building, I still maintain that for a movie titled 'Monsters', it didn't have nearly enough monsters in it and didn't move as fast as I would have liked.
So. That is all.

Date: 2014-05-16 08:20 pm (UTC)Yeah, it sucks pretty hard/ Apparently the inflammation in the inner ear presses against your nerves and causes the signals to get all messed up in there and also causes some temporary hearing loss - every time I lay with my one good ear pressed into the pillow, the world gets kind of muted sounding, it's very strange. It's definitely getting better - I'm just hoping this is the last time I get this virus - it is no fun and takes forever to go away.

It billed itself as an alien apocalypse movie about a journalist and his female friend trying to get through the infected zone before the quarantine walls were closed and it's titled 'Monsters', so you'd think it'd be more Battle: Los Angeles style, action, running, monsters, etc. It was more a character piece about how this experience changed them and the people they used to be - which is fine, but just not what I was expecting. If they had billed it differently and made it sound less like an action apocalypse movie, I would have gone into it with different expectations and probably liked it better.

Ditto on MAOS -- it has been soooo good the past few episodes. The last one was riveting.
I watched 15 minutes of the first ep of 100 and had to stop. 90210 in future space. I am getting too old, I just cannot relate to the juvenile behavior. Everyone was so slappable.

You know, I often enjoy those teen soap operas when they are ridiculous and just don't care. I am too old for the ones that take themselves seriously, but the campy ones (like Reign) really work for me. Unfortunately The 100 takes itself way too seriously and is basically just Lost with teenagers, which I might as well just be watching Lost again then. The parts I like the best are the parts on The Ark with the adults and the futuristic space station and the apocalyptic vibe of desperation going on there. The stuff on earth with the kids is lame. Also, they killed off the only main black kid in like episode 3, which pissed me off. I'm watching through the end of s1, but I doubt they'll wow me enough to get me to come back for s2.

Date: 2014-06-10 05:02 am (UTC)It's as though the last few episodes showed the brilliance of the first few episodes. But the middle bogged down. I am hoping for more out of the show in season 2. I will watch it no matter the quality because, well, Phil.

Date: 2014-06-12 08:43 pm (UTC)Yes! When Garret popped back up, my sister was like, "Oh, of course, damn." And then Phil just came around the corner and BAM and that was it. Like it was so not tropey, like you expect the bad guy gets back up again at the very end of the episode dundundun - that always happens - but this time, nope, just BAM, moving on. AWESOME.
I feel like everything from the minute Hydra came along was pure gold. I think it just took them that long to find their footing - Whedon shows sometimes have this problem, Dollhouse in particular which was done by the same Whedons who are running this show. But now I feel like they have the perfect rounded team - Simmons, Melinda, Skye, Coulson, Triplett - and they have a clear mission - rebuild Shield - and I think that will really help S2 a lot.

Date: 2014-05-16 08:46 pm (UTC)That is one good thing to take away from it - nothing wrong with my brain, except, you know, the usual insanity that goes on up there! lol (I told my Dad that the brain scan didn't find anything and he said, "Nothing at all? ahaha" Shithead!)
*hugs* Just try to take it easy (I know, not much choice, but still) and embrace the frequent nappage.
The sleeping has lessened but damn that first week, I swear I haven't slept like that, so long and so hard, since I was on the drugs. It was kind of nice.

I have now seen the finale! Have you seen the finale?! OMG. FITZSIMMONS!!! TRIPP! COULSON! AAAAAHHHHH! That moment towards the end when the Bus doors open and Simmons is standing there and the rest of the team gets that hero shot - like BAM, TEAM, damn. And with Mike...wait, have you seen the finale? I should shut up until I am sure you have seen the finale? But OMG!!

Date: 2014-06-05 01:30 am (UTC)I kinda want to rewatch the whole thing (or even the last four eps) and then do one of my TWD-style reaction posts with ONE MEEELYON comments dissecting ALL OF IT! :D
You should totally do that!! Or do like individual posts about each character and their arcs throughout the season. Or something where we can spend all summer commenting back and forth to each other like crazy rabid hyenas!!!
