So, we just watched the best movie ever.

And by best, I mean I shit my pants.

Number of times I seriously considered throwing up during this movie = 5.

Not because it was gruesome and bloody per-say, but mostly because my stomach was so twisted into knots with anxiety.

Oh. Right. "What movie?" you ask.

Frozen.

Frozen starred Shawn Ashmore of X-Men fame and Emma Bell, who you may have recently seen in The Walking Dead. And some other guy. It is the movie about the three people who are on the last run on the ski lift and the people forget they are up there and shut it off and then a storm comes and they are stuck up there on the lift.

Sound messed up? Oh, you have no idea. It got so much worse than that. So. Much. Worse.

Go watch it. You will freak the fuck out, but it will be so worth it. Seriously. Way better than I expected it to be.

Also, we watched it through our Streaming Live of Netflix through the Tivo!!! Oh my, Tivo, I love you. I also spent two hours loading our Season Pass Manager and our wish list - (I added Mark Salling, in case he ever, idk, goes on Jimmy Fallon and sings and plays the guitar with Jimmy, who is a huge Glee dork btw. I mean, if I were Glee PR, I would totally do that...so it could happen.)

In other news, I am having an icon dilemma.

See, originally when I named my icons, I wanted to make sure that once they were on my computer, I didn't forget who had made them, so I could properly credit. But when I uploaded them, it didn't occur to me to change the names first - so now I have icons named things like, example: "misc ballerina-tomycoffee" <--tomycoffee being the person who made it.

Except I have filled up about half of my icon space and I still have like twice as many icons in my folder on my computer and I WANT THEM ALL! So I thought, "Well, I'll just change their names to things like "dance icon" and "movie icon" and "angry icon" - you know and then just keep a list of the icon creator someplace separate.

No problem, right? Then when I switch out my Coach Sue You Suck icon for my Michael Will Kick Your Fucking Ass icon, it won't matter - because they will still both be named "angry icon" and it will just replace one with the other.

Genius, right? (Actually someone suggested this to me many months ago but I was all, "On no, I already have 27 icons uploaded, I can't change it now." - 27 icons, I scoff at you now.)

But my dilemma is, that for all the comments I have ever made up to this point - (and ya'll know I talk a lot to you mo-fos) - they will all just be replaced with my default icon. Which really bugs me. When I'm looking at a thread and someone is going, "Jensen is so cute in your icon," and it's a picture of a frog - before I understood why that happened with icons, I would just sit there and stare stupidly and wonder why all these people seem to think Jensen is a frog.

So I can go back through my posts and edit the icons, but I can't do it on all my comments and I guess the big question is: Do I scrap all the icons from the last 8 months in favor of organization?

Hmmm, when I say the word organization, a voice pops into my head - (I think it is my sister's voice honestly) - and says, "There is nothing that isn't worth it, if it means you will be organized."

But do I really believe that?

What would you do, oh great Flist?

In Sum: The cable guy asked me today if my sister's cat "Pippin" was named after Scottie Pippen. I said, "Um, no, like Pippin from the Lord of the Rings" and he burst out laughing and said, "Oh my god, you should see your face. You're all like, no, who the hell is Scottie Pippen?"

In Sum #2: Jensen would make an adorable frog.

Edited - so that I'm perfectly clear: Frozen is a gruesome, bloody movie, but that's not why I found it so terrifying. Just FYI though, don't eat during it.

In future, never use a default icon. Instead, always pick a specific one. Beyond that, I got nothin'. Except that Frozen would probably give me nightmares and I will pass, thank you very much. :) (I feel the same way about the kidnapped Ryan Reynolds In A Coffin movie, the name of which I can't recall.)

I used to use my default icon back in the day for when I was talking about things like Real Life or non-fandom-specific things - but now I have Alison Lohman icons that I use for that instead (she's Hollywood me!). So my default icon is more just for my journal page.

I think I am going for the major overhaul of the icons - now I just have to decide on a system that I like for them. Oh, organizational projects, why do I start you?

I cannot watch that Ryan Reynolds movie - no matter how much I want to climb that man! So claustrophobic, it would terrify me - and not in the good horror movie kind of way that Frozen terrified me. In the - wake up screaming for my sister to Help, help, Help Me in the middle of the night and having her pissed at me for days for making her think that something horrible was happening, even though really I was just having an insanely vivid nightmare - kind of way.

There is this one part in Frozen where the boyfriend is screaming at his bff. He wants the bff to cover the girlfriend's face, so she can't see what is about to happen - and he's screaming, "Don't you let her look! Don't you let her look!" - and that pretty much sums up the entire movie right there.

RR is lovely and tasty, but not lovely or tasty enough for me to watch a movie so specifically aimed at making claustrophobes completely insane!

Yeah, you're not making me any more eager to see Frozen. :)

That line cracked me up so bad! God, he WOULD make an adorable frog! Now I need him doing voiceover for an animated frog or something.

God, he WOULD make an adorable frog!

Ha! When I typed that line, I wished there was someone else in the room with me, so I could say, "$20 says this is the line Annie comments on." I knew you would. ;)

You like frogs. You like Jensen. Jensen-Frog is the logical conclusion.

Now I want a cartoon drawing of a frog with little freckles and big green eyes and long eyelashes and big pouty lips. Yes, I do. Hmmm, I don't think I am good enough to draw that.

I have always liked frogs, but I never kissed one. I doubt it would turn into Jensen, but there is only one way to find out.

Hahaha, of course it would be the thing I commented on, no one would have bet against you on that one!

I would tooootally kiss frogs if there was even a glimmer of a hope that one would turn into Jensen!

I'm impressed that you enjoyed Frozen so much. I was thinking of watching it too. After this endorsement, it's become a must-see. *g*

Re: icons
Well, you know that I'm an anal retentive organization freak, so Dean (who is totally not an anal retentive organization freak but he would agree with me on this) and I both say: "SUCK IT UP!" Edit the icons on your posts if you must (you're still under 200 posts right?) but let the comments go and start from scratch. Get it right, this time!

I should've shared with you my icon system months ago, but I got lazy and assumed that you'd figure something out. My bad. Use the keywords to help you identify the icon and keep the name of the icon maker in the 'Comment' category underneath the Keyword. My system is obviously more complex than that, but that's the basic rule.

Like [livejournal.com profile] vikingprincess, I don't have a default icon either (except for the purposes of having an icon on my profile page). When posting and commenting, I always choose a specific icon.

And can you imagine that I have two sets of icons? One for this journal and one for [livejournal.com profile] menel. My big dilemma used to be deciding which journal a particular icon ended up at, but that's gotten much easier over time.

Good luck to you!

Frozen - Really, we were all yelling at the TV - shouting out things they needed to do - "Use your ski pole" - "Throw your snowboard!" - and then coming up with solutions for how to get off the mountain and then yelling at them some more when they weren't doing what we said! Maybe it just hit a certain trigger or button in me - but if so, it hit one in The BFF and The Sister too, so...yes, watch Frozen, be prepared to be disturbed though.

Icons - Well, I figured out the keywords pretty early on, I've just been too lazy to do it. But when The BFF loaded up my icons for me - when she made the journal in the first place - they had the person's name on them still, so I just figured that was how you credited and moved on. But when I got my paid account (3 months after I got the journal) I went looking for more icons and suddenly realized I was doing it all wrong. I should have overhauled then, but again...lazy.

Yeah, I never use my default icon anymore. Every once in awhile I used to use it when I was just talking to someone about real life or something that didn't require a specific icon, but now I use my Alison Lohman icon when I am doing that, so the default icon is just for my representation.

So - how do you do it with your icons? I thought I would sort my icons on my computer into folders like, "Dance", "Horror", "Jensen" etc - upload one from each - and then just rotate them out occasionally. What do you do? Tell me in detail. I am making decisions - it is hard.

Ha! I know you have two sets of icons - I've heard you waxing on about which icons should go in which journal. I can't imagine having to make such decisions. I can barely make decisions on one journal! Though, I keep wondering if I should have a fic journal too. Do you pay for both your journals? Right now I have like 20 fics up, but if I get all my stories up this year that I want to, it'll be more than a hundred. Hmmm, decision for another day, I suppose.

Thanks for the advice - icons are too damn shiny for their own good!

Ha! This film is right up my alley, then. I like disturbing films. The more disturbing the better. Have you seen Anti-Christ? Holy fuck. :-)

So - how do you do it with your icons? . . . Tell me in detail. I am making decisions - it is hard.

I will put up a special post over on [livejournal.com profile] menel solely about my icon system. (That's friendship man, friendship!) I may not be able to do it this coming week unfortunately because I have a major deadline on Friday, but it will be soon-ish. Hopefully, you won't be done with your system yet otherwise that would be . . . a waste? :-)

Though, I keep wondering if I should have a fic journal too. Do you pay for both your journals? Right now I have like 20 fics up, but if I get all my stories up this year that I want to, it'll be more than a hundred.

Actually, I think the decisions are closely related. The fact that I have two journals completely affects my icon system. Yes, I do pay for both my journals and the main reason I made the plunge was because I needed more icon space. Once I crossed that line there was no going back.

In your case, I don't know if you really need a fic journal. Although, it would make sense if you put up over a hundred fics this year and wanted a space to exclusively host your fiction. For me, the journals are a clear fandom/RL split. (Even though in reality there's a small measure of cross-over.) I don't think of [livejournal.com profile] menel as a 'fic' journal. It's broader - a fandom journal. It's a place where aside from posting my fics, I can squee (or rant!) over other fandom-related things and interests.

[livejournal.com profile] camera_lucida on the other hand, is a purely personal journal. I had to set it up because as I got more and more LJ friends, I realized that I wasn't comfortable discussing my life with people I had just met. (Not all friendships turn out like ours. *wink*) I could have put up friends filters [livejournal.com profile] menel, but I found the whole idea annoying. (And I'm lazy.) Conversely, I also realized that some people who friend-ed [livejournal.com profile] menel really were only after the fiction/fandom stuff, so the personal stuff actually got in the way. Hence, [livejournal.com profile] camera_lucida.

I haven't heard of 'Frozen', it must have not come out here yet, but now I'm intiriged.

As for your icon dilemma, I really feel for you, I'm annoyed at my icons too lol. However, I'm pretty much the most indecisive person in the world and alas I cannot help. :(
But good luck!!

You know, idk if Frozen came to the theaters even. It might have been direct to dvd, which is probably why I expected it to suck so much. If it did come to the theaters, it was only here for a week, because I don't remember it. I didn't even know what it was, but my sister is a huge Shawn Ashmore fan, so she wanted to watch it. I really, really loved it. I'm still excited about it and it was like three days ago, lol.

Just out of curiousity - since you just very recently got your journal - do you have any icon system? How do you organize them?

Date: 2011-01-10 11:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] flawed-x-design.livejournal.com
Ah ok. I'll have to look for it. The plot sounds kind of random actually, but I'm still quite curious lol.

Urgh no. I've actually been recently wanting to delete them all, because I'll be all squee-ful in my comment and have to post a random/non squee-ful icon. Its annoying. But it would mean removing most of my current ones, and THAT means all my posts/comments going to default if that happens, and thats annoying, especially with the xmas themed ones, but I can't have too many so what will I do?! *sits in corner rocking back and forth*
PLUS, do I put up funny/original ones that are my favourites? Or do I go with ones that will reflect the mood in my comment? (I could go on)

I get scared sometimes because everytime I comment on your posts or reply to your comments, I just find myself agreeing with you. Its unerving and I can't help thinking it probably freaks you out too LMAO

Well, if you don't have a paid account for LJ, then you are probably fine on your icons - but the minute you get a paid account, or if you start finding icons everywhere on the internets that you must have - then I would make a system. I only had space for 15 icons, but I had like 50 icons, so I kept switching them out and then I realized that it was defaulting all my old stuff and I freaked out and got a paid account - so that I could have ALL THE ICONS IN THE WORLD - as one must. But I should have asked people what their systems for icons were right then when I got the paid account. I wouldn't currently be sorting through 400 icons, if I had. Also, why are icons so pretty and distracting and why do I feel the need to have an icon for everything I ever talk about?

Yeah, I use certain icons for when I am making a happy post or a sad post or a fic rec post or whatever. Then I have icons for when I am talking about J2 or RPS or Dean/Castiel or zombies or porn or Chad or music or Hawaii 5-0 or Glee or Southland, etc.

I don't know if that helped you at all. lol

I am not freaked out when people agree with me. I think people should always agree with me! ;) lol Though we do seem to have a lot to talk about, don't we? :)

Well unfortunately I probably have several hundred icns from all over the place, and probably a few more on my old computer, and yeah a system would've been a GREAT idea haha. Icons are TOO ADDICTIVE AND PRETTY AND FUNNY :(

Haha, don't we all :P
That we do :)

If you even think you might get a paid account at some point - (it is pretty cheap, honestly, I was surprised) - then you should set up an icon system now. I tried to get my stack down to like 250 today, so I wouldn't have to rehaul everything, and I couldn't do it. I couldn't part with enough icons. I'm not entirely happy with the sytem I am working on now, but trust me, you are better off to get organized early one - I am so tired of sorting icons atm, I swear.

The only real 'system' - if it can be called that - that I have now is that I have 2 folders one for spn related icons and another for every other icon. (and yet when its a pic from stonehenge apocolypse or a pic of the actors, I'm conflicted on whether goes in the spn folder or not)
I'm thinking of making it 3 folders - fandom related, spn, and misc. Its so hard becuase so many icons fit in so many categories :(
And I've also started re-saving icons if I see them around and naming them after whoever created them so that I can credit them, which I didn't need to worry about bfore.
What's your organisational system?

Date: 2011-01-20 08:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dodger-sister.livejournal.com
I didn't really have a system before - I just found something I liked and saved it and randomly rotated things, but with no order and with no proper keywords or crediting.

So I have slowly started sorting through my 500 icons and putting them into folders - BAMF, Happy, Twinks, Dean Winchester, Entourage, The West Wing, Winchester Brothers, Great Fic, etc... And then, instead of loading them all at once, I just load them as I talk about them.

I was just talking about Leverage with someone the other day and before I replied to the thread, I loaded my Leverage icon and I named it "leverage icon". So now, if I want to switch it out and use a different one, I just name the new one "leverage icon" as well and it won't default all my old comments where I used the leverage icon - it will just automatically switch them from the old leverage icon to the new one.

And I keep a backup folder where the icons all have the icon-makers name on them, so I won't forget where I got them.

That sounds really confusing but it's totally not, lol.

My only complaint is that I can't have all the icons all the time, so I will have to randomly switch them around from time to time.

Date: 2011-01-10 04:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ranua.livejournal.com
Now I feel all unorganized. I don't have any system for my icons and you've made me think maybe I should. crap. I will say, yeah, put the maker's name in the comments section and don't worry about the icons on comments. That way possibly leads to madness.

Also, I change up my default icon sorta regular. Mostly cuz I often answer comments from my e-mail and I don't get a choose icon option there. Plus, I just like to change it.

Date: 2011-01-13 05:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dodger-sister.livejournal.com
You have a paid account, you should get organized now. Unless you don't foresee yourself having an extreme amount of icons. If you don't have forty different televisions shows that you talk about, like I do - and the need to have an icon for each one - then you are probably fine. Plus, you've been Lj-ing for a while, so if you haven't had a problem yet, you probably won't.

Still - organizational skills - I should have them.

My main problem with the current system I am working on setting up is just that, well - with only one Christian Kane icon loaded at a time, I can't pick and choose the pretty for each comment. And do I have an "Entourage" folder AND a "Johnny Drama" folder? Decisions are hard.

I would organize, but I'm not sure how I'd go about it. Also, I am lazy like a no-legged dog.
