So...yesterday I watched "Sorority Boys" for the first time EVER.
Let me start by saying, if you watch it, don't quit 20 minutes in. I almost did, didn't think I could do it, no matter how cute Michael is in his little cap. Right around 40 minutes, it became the best thing I have ever seen in my life - (and no, not just because the cross-dressing kicked in). The rest of the movie was kick-your-legs laughing kind of funny. And, as The BFF said - (Yes, now that she lives here, she is subjected to watching all of the crap that Tivo picks up for me in the middle of the night from SyFy, Comedy Central or Lifetime based solely on my boyfriends/girlfriends starring in them) - that in regards to Sorority Boys, "Of all the ‘cross-dressing boys join a sorority’ movies out there, this may be the best I’ve ever seen." It had a believable plot, characters you grew to love and it wasn't all penis and fart jokes. Plus, there was an underlying theme of female empowerment there.
But let's be honest - we are all watching to see Michael Rosenbaum and Barry Watson dressed as chicks, right? So here is where I got confused in my pants. I have many things I like about Michael - top of the list, his lips - and his arms are definitely on the list too. As for chicks, I'll admit, I tend to be a boob-girl. Michael looked good in drag. His baby smooth skin makes him perfect for it. I kind of hate him that he looks better in heels/skirts/everything than me, but whatever. Then we hit the football scene, and here he is dressed as a chick with an excellent, albeit fake, rack wearing sporty chick clothes perfect for playing football in. It's Michael...but it's not. And his arms were visible - and I didn't know where to look. His arms or his chest. It was very confusing. I may have yelled so at the TV. But to be clear, HE WAS HOT. It was too much for me to handle. In my pants.
Also, Barry, you are the most adorable thing that ever lived - but honey, what was up with your hair? Your actual hair and your wig - both were bad. The BFF is right, you have the facial structure to make an excellent woman, if you just had a better wig. I am NOT taking this movie too seriously.
I just may have loved it. And I'm not ashamed. Though I still don't know where to look during that football scene.
In other TV news - I don't feel like any of this is spoilery. I do try not to outright shout the main plot points while still giving my opinion. But just in case you don't want to risk it...
I am currently watching "Deadwood". I only have vague memories of watching it before. I had a broken leg and pain pills at the time, so it's like watching it for the first time now. It is emotionally exhausting how much I am into Jane. She will wreck you. I <3 Charlie, I hope he is in more eps. Dan and Al are in the longest most committed relationship the show has. Ellsworth and Dan are BFFs and don't even know it. Also, I have to turn the volume way up because everyone is mumbley and muttery and slurry - except for Al, who pronounces his words loud ‘n clear. I generally have a foul mouth but I try to reign it in - if I don't, then I find I slip up whenever The Nephew is around. Deadwood has kind of thrown that out the window. I had choice words while playing Simpsons Road Rage today and The BFF said, “Well, even if I didn’t already know it, I’d know you had started watching Deadwood by your mouth.” In Sum: Timothy Olyphant, please always build things with your shirt off.
"Breaking In" - if you saw it and you know me, then you know that I was like beyond in love with Oz at the end during that exchange between him and Melanie. I love the "family we make" theme and Breaking In just clicked it.
"Glee" - It was fine, but why was it so long? The Warblers song did get me kind of sweetly-sad-happy and also I like that Keane song. The Gaga one was good - I do like when they perform as a united front. Also, Puck's t-shirt FTMFW! And Mike's fucking legs moving like Grace itself. And even though most of the time he bores me, Finn really does make your heart all mushy sometimes. I could have done without all the Emma crap, I guess, was my main problem. I just find I don’t care that much about Will or Emma. And the episode kind of dragged. Oh...and I am so done with Dave. They need to stop that now. First it was incredibly triggery for me during my happy show, not kidding - and now it's just stupid. They couldn't have just transferred the character? (Yeah, so done with that storyline).
"The Office" - I just watched Michael's last ep of The Office, accidentally - and even though I only sporadically watch that show in reruns, I was still crying like a baby girl. Yes, I cried, okay?! It was very well done. I <3 him. I do. (Also, for the record, Andy and Kevin are my boys!)
Okay, I have real life stuff to report, but I'll make another post after I catch up on My Flist. So...uh, whenever that is.
That is all.
ETA: New tags for my LJ - "breaking in - i'll allow it" & "deadwood - *unts & *ocksuckers". I amuse myself.

Date: 2011-05-01 09:58 pm (UTC)OMG. He was disappointed. I agree. lol I was watching that scene at the end, where Cash realizes his crush would have played Leia and he goes in the Silence mode and I thought, "Um, they can't hear him, but Cash is aware everyone can still see him, right?" ;)
The show just keeps getting better and better.

SO MANY THINGS
Date: 2011-04-29 04:10 am (UTC)Deadwood - Aren't you watching on DVD? They're all captioned, y'know. I watch most TV shows with the captions on because we are a stone's throw from a busy street, a highway, and the freaking train tracks where the trains blow their horns at the precise moment they cross near our windows. Christ. I can't hear a damn thing in this apartment.
I love the way Jane curses. It's musical.
Tim O. is so lithe and wiry and way too thin but YAY SHIRTLESS.
Glee - I'm sick of Big Gay Bully and that storyline. It was touching at first and triggery yes, but I thought the outcome was realistic. I also love how Burt stands up for Kurt and the stuff that comes out of his mouth is also realistic. But then they have to go and turn the Glee universe into one of unicorns and rainbows and gumdrops, and I now roll my eyes at every episode. The whole bullying thing bothers me immensely.
The Office - WAAAHHHHHHHH. You should go on Hulu right now and watch the last few episodes. SO GOOD. Last week was the final Dundies, and there is a scene that occurs right after they get back from the restaurant that had me weeping. I am a giant bowl of emotional fluff inside.
Re: SO MANY THINGS
Date: 2011-05-01 10:27 pm (UTC)Yes, there was definitely a surprising female empowerment element. I was only in it for the cross-dressing Rosenbaum to start with, but I was pleasantly surprised to find substance and meaning in the movie.
I also loved the scene where he throws the rock through the back windshield of that car when the douchebags yell something rude.
They kept yelling at him that he had a fat ass. I thought his ass looked good! Both myself and The BFF started outright cheering when he threw the rock at them. It was great. (now I kinda want to watch it again).
Deadwood - They're all captioned, y'know.
This is my brain. I keep it over here on this side table because I don't use it very often. - You are smart, that is a good idea. I used to watch everything with the captions on at the apartment, but since we got the house, I guess I got spoiled by the nice quiet neighborhood.
Jane strings words together like poetry. Tim O IS way too thin, but there is that scene where he and Sal are looking at their work on the hardware store and Tim is all sweaty and no shirt and low hanging pants and no underwear and you can almost see everything and holy shit.
Glee - That whole Dave The Bully storyline had me pretty upset. Because it was SO realistic, it was just like, "Well we watched that, I don't want to discuss it afterwards, okay?" And then people on the Glee lists went like crazy about it and started writing Dave/Kurt romance stories and it made me want to throw up. Burt stepping up was amazing. And the outcome was good too, I understood why they sent him to another school, even though they then had to work Chris Colfer onto the show every week. But then Finn was all in that later ep, "You can just apologize," and I thought what an idiot he is to think that an apology can make it okay for Kurt ever. They just wouldn't let it drop. Glee is supose to be my happy show (that very occassionally is allowed to make me cry like a girl).
But then they have to go and turn the Glee universe into one of unicorns and rainbows and gumdrops,
I know. My original thought about how they are resolving this Dave storyline is that they are going to fix all the bullies in the world by holding hands and singing songs. I meant it as a putdown - but then I realized that Glee actually does hold hands and sing, so people probably wouldn't get that remark.
Office - I saw the episode they aired right before the Michael-finale, where he proposed to Holly (she was always my fav girlfriend of Michael's, I cried when she got transferred and had to move away). When she started to ask him in the break room and he stopped her, I was screaming at the TV - "That's a great story, Michael! She says she has to leave and she asks you to go with her and then proposes to you and before she can finish saying it, you get down on one knee and show her the ring because you had already bought her a ring and then you are both on your knees and kising and...!!!!!" But then when they got to the actual proposal with the candles and everyone asking her to marry them and him taking her on the tour of all the places in the office that have meaning for them, OMG! (Though my sister did say, "That is a fire hazard," and then as the words were out of her mouth, the sprinklers went off, lol). Such good stuff, my heart is squishy.

Sorority Boys is, in fact, a movie about guys dressed as girls in a sorority. To be clear. However, very funny and did have a female empowerment theme to it that surprised me. I think I might have to buy this movie. (also my Jericho boyfriend was in it, which I forgot to mention, but he was the bad guy and he had bad hair and was throwing his voice all weird). Rosenbaum starts out as the biggest dick of them all but I was actually cheering for him by the end.

Date: 2011-05-04 12:28 pm (UTC)Breaking In is turning out to be one of my favorite shows right now. It's so damn funny. I love *love* Cash re-making Star Wars and starring in every role. Especially since it took him all those years to finish it. It's the little details they throw in like that that make it that much better.

Date: 2011-05-10 06:14 am (UTC)I know, you think you are just watching a silly show about cross-dressing boys and then BAM, you are learning a valuable life lessson and girls are kicking ass everywhere!
The Star Wars thing was great! And he totally nailed every role. If George Lucas wanted to fuck around with the original movies, he should have just made the movie where Cash played every role, lol.
I woke up the other day and The BFF was all, "So I maybe pulled up all the episodes of Breaking In on your Tivo and watched them all." heehee Then she said, "I have found what it is that Jensen Ackles and Michael Rosenbaum have in common."
I said, "What?"
"They both steal every scene in they are in. They both steal every show they are in."
This it the truth.
In other Michael news - OMG, this Friday is the Smallville finale, why am I so excited? I am though. I AM!
