Ficage In May.

Finally getting around to last month’s word count. May was a really good month for writing, thanks to two birthdays of my most favorite people in the world - The Nephew and The BFF. One of the fics I worked on last month was The Nephew’s birthday fic which got a great response from him - he wants me to write him another one. The other fic I worked on last month was The BFF’s fic and no, it is not done yet. I have now reached 6,200 words on the thing and I think I have finally reached the halfway mark on this sucker.

Here is my approximate word count for the month.

May, 2012
Week One: 850 words of Avengers Action fic.
Week Two: 1,550 words of Avengers Action fic. Completed. (already posted!)
Week Three: 2,400 words of Secret Crossover fic.
Week Four: 2,050 words of Secret Crossover fic.
Week Five: 650 words of Secret Crossover fic.

7,500 words written in May!

May, 2010
He Was Still Just Rosenbaum
Jared’s having a bad day. The boys want to help. Michael is an idiot. Wow, okay, worst summary ever but I still am rather fond of this story. It was the first fic I ever posted to my Livejournal and if I recall correctly, it was also my first Mike/Misha story ever. I was having a bad week, so it got a little heavier than I had originally intended but I actually kind of like that about it. Plus, Jared tripping was fun to write. Heads up though - this is the story I made the tag ‘warning - drug use’ for.

May, 2011
The Battle of the Bubbles
Sam comes home sick and finds Dean in a compromised position. Totally not what the summary makes it sound like because this fic is rated “G” and is completely “gen” but still…I love its adorable face. That’s right, my fic has an adorable face. Dean in a bubble bath playing with toys and taking care of a sick!Sam - need I say more? Okay then.

And I Don’t Mean To
Dean is upset about something. Sam is determined to find out what. I love nothing more in this world than writing wee!chesters. This was my mathom to my Flist on my Hobbit coming-of-age. I think this is one of my favorite things I have ever written (I know, I love all my fics but I really love this one a lot). It’s sweet and a little sad and the boys are such good brothers. Inspired by the quotes, “Don’t you leave him! they said to me. Leave him! I said. I never mean to. I am going with him, if he climbs to the Moon, and if any of those Black Riders try to stop him, they’ll have Sam Gamgee to reckon with, I said.”…and, “You saved my life, over and over. I mean, you sacrifice everything for me, don’t you think I’d do the same thing for you? You’re my big brother. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you.” Spoilers for The Lord Of The Rings.

I think for The Nephew’s ‘back to school’ fic at the end of the summer - (I told him he had to wait until then for me to write him another) - I will try a little Spiderman & Friends, otherwise known in my head as “The Grand Adventures of Bobby and Peter.” I was thinking a little fic where Iceman and Spiderman meet in high school and proceed to fight crime together. I am hoping I can write it for kids and still appeal to the HS AU crowd, but we’ll see.

Go you, with the writey!

Would your fic be a throwback to the Spideman/Amazing Friends show, with Iceman and Firestorm, or something new entirely?

Thanks, babe! I was pretty damn happy with my word count!

Would your fic be a throwback to the Spideman/Amazing Friends show, with Iceman and Firestorm, or something new entirely?

I don't remember the Spiderman/Amazing Friends show...how do I not know about this? There was actually a comic out when I was a kid called 'Spidey & Friends' (I think that was what it was called, because when I saw a kid I mean like 8/9). It had Spidey, Iceman, Hulk and sometimes Wolverine or Captain America. I just remember wanting Iceman and Spiderman to best friends forever. So it'll kind of be a throwback to that - my childhood friend-shipping of the two wisecracking teen boy superheroes.

There was an animated Spiderman and his Amazing Friends airing when I was in fifth grade or so - we're talking mid-seventies. It's the first TB show I ever dreamed about being a part of. I dreamed I was Firestorm, flying around my elementary school and too hot for the bullies to touch. WAY too hot, baby! :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_and_His_Amazing_Friends

Okay, they're saying it didn't start until 1981... that just seems too late to me. But maybe I dreamed about it when I was in junior high already, and setting the dream in elementary school where I'd been bullied the worst was a sign of the stress I was feeling. Anyway, go, read, learn! :)

I would have been three in 1981. I am betting I actually watched this and just don't remember. When my older brother was 11 my parents let him subscribe to a comic and he picked Wolverine. I was seven and they let me too and I picked Spiderman - for no reason that I could ever figure out now. My brother had never read Spiderman ever so I have always wondered why I picked Spiderman (I read him for the entire run of my childhood after that). Now I wonder if maybe I used to watch that TV show and just can't remember it. That would explain why I picked Spiderman and why I was such a big fan of the friendship between Iceman and Spidey.

My little fangirl heart is squeeing at the idea of them living together in Aunt May's house!!! I bet if I watched it now I would totally see threesome potential.

I do have the original Spiderman cartoon on DVD, the one from the 60s that keeps boasting "IN COLOR!". lol

(I just went to see when my Spidey & Friends comic came out and I can't find it listed anywhere. Maybe it wasn't a comic at all. Maybe it was this cartoon all along. I am sure I have some of the comics though. Now I'll have to look through my collection and see if I can find any).

Isn't it weird how things get into our heads? I wouldn't be surprised at all if you had watched the show and forgotten it except for liking Spidey at age 7!

You've written more words in a month than I have since the beginning of the year, I'm sure. \o/

[identity profile] dodger-sister.livejournal.com 2012-06-21 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of got behind on everything else in my life last month in order to make that word count but it still felt good to have words flowing that well. I know how you feel, darling. Last year I had a year like that where I would have whole months were I never even opened a word document. I hope your muses come back soon!

*starts working her way through flist*

Lots of words in May! Congrats!

Every time I see you do one of these posts, I think I should start doing a monthly word count too. And then poof! it's the next month and you're doing one of these posts again. Maybe I'm stuck in a time bubble?

I don't think I've read that Mike/Misha fic, which is a travesty, so it is now open in another tab to be read at first chance.

[identity profile] dodger-sister.livejournal.com 2012-06-21 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I am now making my way through your comments. Not even kidding, like ten minutes after I sent you that comment about how we could really use a storm to drop the tempature - the sky grew dark and the rain started pouring.

Thanks, babe! My word count was really rewarding last month.

Every month I go to do one of these posts, I look up and realize the month is half over with and I still haven't done it yet. Maybe I am stuck in the time bubble too? You should totally do a monthly word count. The thing that makes it easier for me to keep track of is that I have a word document titled 'word count' on it and every time I write more words, I just open it real quick and make a note of '700 h50 fic'. It makes it much easier come time to make one of these posts.

I would be very curious to see how much you write each month. I have a friend who does one of these counts and she counts things like personal letters, essays, episode reviews - so even if you aren't writing a ton of fic, you could count all of those things because any writing is creative writing.

No one had ever read that Mike/Misha fic! I had like five LJ friends at the time, maybe, cuz I hadn't even been LJ-ing yet for two weeks even. And it was my first post of a CW RPS fic, so no one in that fandom knew my name yet. Actually it was my first LJ fic post, so no one on LJ really knew my name yet. I felt bad for my little story that it didn't get ebnough play.

[identity profile] wolfrider89.livejournal.com 2012-06-24 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I have now started a word count! So far this "month" (starting the 20th) I have written a little over 1k. It feels good to see the progress. :) I write how many words I've written, and also what. So far it's just more BB fic, but I'm thinking I'm gonna do as you said and count letter and essays and stuff too.

No one had ever read that Mike/Misha fic!
That is a travesty! There isn't enough Mike/Misha in the world, and that one was awesome! Poor little fic. *pats fic* I don't think my first fic got that many reads either. Could be because I gave the Winchesters a sister and wrote it in first person POV... :P

That'll really up your word count when school kicks back in!

Awww, thanks, babe!

Yeah, nobody takes Winsister-fic very seriously, I am afraid. Now I am racking my brain trying to remember what the first fic of yours was I ever read. I think it was "Twitter Mania". I had my LJ about three weeks at the time you posted that.

Ooh yeah! I mean, the essays alone!

Yeah, nobody takes Winsister-fic very seriously, I am afraid.
Haha, no, I know. I think I went pretty Mary Sue on it, too, but whatevs, it was one of the first stories I ever actually FINISHED, so yay. :) Oh, "Twitter Mania", huh? I hardly remember what that's about... wait, is that the one where the CW fire Misha for his relationship with Jensen? And then SPN gets cancelled? OK, I remember. :p I remember that the first fic I read by you was a CK/Jensen fic you wrote for Annie's birthday. There were blowjobs. :) And then we totally hi-jacked one of Annie's posts with our comment conversations. I guess we've evolved now that we're just doing it on our own journals. ;)

Oh man, long before I got the internet and entered fandom, I used to write original stories and they were all so Mary-Sue it was ridiculous. And self-inserty. I think it is how most writers start actually.

Oh, "Twitter Mania", huh? I hardly remember what that's about... wait, is that the one where the CW fire Misha for his relationship with Jensen?

Yep, that's the one! I loved that one.

I remember that the first fic I read by you was a CK/Jensen fic you wrote for Annie's birthday. There were blowjobs.

The Name Game! I hadn't written porn in so long when I tackled that one. I knew we met through Annie but I wasn't sure exactly how.

And then we totally hi-jacked one of Annie's posts with our comment conversations. I guess we've evolved now that we're just doing it on our own journals. ;)

ahahaha We totally did. Yes, we have evolved now. lol

I love how everyone seem to start out writing Mary-Sue characters. I guess it's because we want them to be awesome and amazing and stuff, and in the beginning we think the only way to get them to be like that is to make them perfect pod-people or something. :P One of my creative writing books said something about learning the craft: in the beginning you think everything is shit, because you've read good literature and you know how to recognize good literature, but what you write don't turn out that way, and you just get frustrated and think everything you write sucks. What you need to remember is that you've spent years cultivating your literary tastes, so you should spend years cultivating your writing before you get to think it sucks.

Long ramble is long. Point is, everything is awesome and I just got back from ten days in the Swedish mountains. That is totally the point. :P

Just had to go reread Twitter Mania because this thread made me all nostalgic.

I guess it's because we want them to be awesome and amazing and stuff, and in the beginning we think the only way to get them to be like that is to make them perfect pod-people or something.

That is true. But we learn that characters can be endearingly loved by readers by having many layers and faults, by making the reader cheer for them and champion them.

What you need to remember is that you've spent years cultivating your literary tastes, so you should spend years cultivating your writing before you get to think it sucks.

Oooooh, your writing book has a good point. I had never thought of it like that before but that is really good advice for a first time writer.

Point is, everything is awesome and I just got back from ten days in the Swedish mountains.

That sounds lovely! Glad it was a good time.

I saw! It made me smile when I saw that you'd commented on it. :D

But we learn that characters can be endearingly loved by readers by having many layers and faults, by making the reader cheer for them and champion them.

Exactly. We remember that some of our own favorite characters weren't exactly perfect. *cough Dean cough* In fact, the more broken, the more I like them, so IDEK why I thought they had to be perfect when I wrote them. :p

I had never thought of it like that before but that is really good advice for a first time writer.

It is, isn't it? First time I read it I had to just take a break and go "huh. Damn, that's smart."

look at you go with all those words! Congratulations on another month with a great word count.

The Nephew isn't the only one looking forward to his story. You've done so well with the kid appropriate ones so far I'm really looking forward to it too. I love the humor and characterizations.

Thank you! I really did well with the words last month - it made me very happy! This month is not going so well but I have a few days left.

The Nephew isn't the only one looking forward to his story. You've done so well with the kid appropriate ones so far I'm really looking forward to it too. I love the humor and characterizations.

Awwww, thank you. I'm all blushy. I am excited to write it actually. I friend-ship Peter and Bobby so hard, back from like age 7 even. They are both such wise-cracking goofballs, I can't wait to try my hand at writing that.
