Baseball! But Mostly Fic Recs.

So I managed to watch the Tigers’ final game of the regular season against the Miami Marlins and I just wanted to say ‘hats off’ to the Marlins’ Henderson Alvarez for pitching a no-hitter in the game on Sunday. CONGRATS, ALVAREZ! It’s a rare thing, the no-hitter - only 3 pitched in the entirety of the MLB this season and only 6 in the history of the Marlins. It was kind of fun to watch actually and since we were already in the playoffs anyways, I found myself rooting for Alvarez to do it! It’s an exciting thing to see unfolding. On the downside, Justin Verlander still has not had a Major League hit. He is 0 for 26 now. It’s way past sad at this point. It’s actually the one thing I don’t like about the American League, is that our pitchers don’t bat, but I guess in Justin’s case it’s a good thing he only has to do it when we are playing in a National League park, because damn boy. PLAYOFFS START ON FRIDAY!!

And now…some fic recs:


1. Billy the Bureaucrat by fragrantwoods - Battlestar Galactica, Rated: M, 1200 words, Billy fic! I love Billy. This is also Adama/Roslin and it's this author's fault that I went from mildly shipping them to all the hearts in the sky for them. And Billy is so sweet in this and the bit at the end, omg, my heart. You wait for the moment, it'll hit you too.

2. The Agent & the Analyst by dugindeep. CW RPS, Multi-chapter J2 that is so sweet and awesome and plotty. And it's finally finished, so you can read the whole thing! She started writing it while rewatching The West Wing and it has that great voice and dialogue to it that the West Wing had with Jared in a suit being a Secret Service agent and excellent plot and adorable awesome boys and awesomesauce Danneel! I admit to being a little sad that it's over. What will I do with myself now?!

3. Rhapsody in Kaiju Blue (I) by liptonrm - Pacific Rim, Rated: G - M. Omg, you guys. It's five mini-fics in one, including pieces for the Jaegers, Mako/Raleigh (with porn!), Newt, Mako & Stacker and the Jaegers' crew. And you cannot ask me to pick my favorite because omg, I waver back and forth between them all! The things this makes me feel and think and the way it fleshes out this already wonderful world even more, puts you right there, right in those moments, right in that world with such utter beauty. I refuse to pick just one!

4. Leaf by afra_schatz - LOTRips, Viggo/Sean, Rated: PG, 1500 words. The atmosphere in this is beautiful and so vivid that I can smell the bar Sean is in. The depth the author gives this relationship in so few words, the years weaved into this, the complexities of the way they are together. This feels so very much alive to me and is beyond wonderful in the way it made me feel.

5. Strange Attractors by the_deep_magic - Criminal Minds, Rated: Explicit, Garcia/Reid. I have been reading a lot of Criminal Minds fic lately and since I read this one, no other fic has quite hit the spot. Because this? This hit my spot so fucking hard. Idek what made me go for this pairing and I am not a huge fan of overly virginal-Reid, but holy shit. I cannot get this fic out of my head. The porn is astounding, the emotions ripped me to pieces, the way they are together is just like on the show but better and more and just, there is a point closer to the end where I was just crying so hard because I needed them to figure this shit out. Dammit, I'm going to end up reading this again tonight, aren't I?

I’ve been sitting up doing actual things for an hour and a half now and I’m all sweaty and tired again and my sister says I look kind of pale. Humph. (It was probably actually geeking out over Agents Of Shield on the phone with The BFF that did me in). Whatever, I’m going back to the couch to watch Sleepy Hollow now (finally!).

OMG, IKR? It is beyond delicious and so emotional at the end, like holding my breath to see which way Reid would go (with Criminal Minds fic you can never tell, they don't always believe in the happy ending). This fic hit so many of my spots, for fic and for these characters, and it was awesome! I didn't even know you watched Criminal Minds (or fake-watched Criminal Minds, the way I do, which is 'thank god for marathon reruns on ION Channel').

My watching of CM is totally fake watching - as in, I'll watch it when I happen across it, but don't seek it out. However, Garcia, Derek, and Reid are definitely my favorite babies on the show.

I think fake-watching Criminal Minds is the best! I also have the first four seasons burned on DVD, so if I need a background show, I an just pop that in.

Garcia and Reid are def my favs on the show, hands down! But I have big soft spots for Morgan and Prentiss and Hotch (and even JJ, who took a while to grow on me but I love her lots in the later seasons). I used to love Gideon but I kind of waned off liking him as time went on and I despised Rossi for a long time but I've softened to him a little these days. I never really cared overly much for Elle. (I'm so proud, I finally learned all their names!)

Mostly I just like those moment right before they head into the 'situation room' where they are all goofing around with each other and then I like to fast forward through all the unsub stuff. It's a weird way to watch a show, but whatever.

Screw baseball, it's finally hockey season!!!

Which I pretty much NEVER say, but this year, I'm so fucking dejected, I just... I mean, were they kidding me with that bullshit, or what? The only thing worse that being a Leafs fan is being a Jays fan, these days.

Heh, I saw some guy on the bus the other day with a t-shirt that said "I cheer for two teams. The Red Sox and whoever beats the Yankees" I laughed :)

LOL You know what? I feel like I am somehow a bad Michigander because we have the fucking amazing Red Wings and I don't follow hockey. And I even actually like hockey (I don't find it boring like I do football or basketball). So Idk what my deal is - I should watch more hockey!

There is nothing harder than being a fan of a team that has such a rough season - (I'll say 'rough season' and be polite about it, but you use all the profane words you want when describing it!). Detroit had their bad years, back when, but a few great seasons and we all brainwash ourselves into thinking it could never happen to us. It makes me think that diehard fans for someone like the NY Mets are made of some fucking strong stuff.

Word, sister. I need that shirt! I can be friends with all kinds of fans for other baseball teams and we will smack talk each other like crazy, but we still always stick with our main mantra of "As long as it's not the Yankees." Unite!

DO IT! WATCH IT! Seriously, it was way fucking awesome on the big screen but even without that, the content of the story holds up so well even without the huge-ass sized monster/robot fights. Like, the way it takes all those story tropes and tweaks them or turns then on their heads just a little is astounding. And it has such great world building too! I rec it for both you and The Boy!
