So, my sister works in a pretty cool office. Her team leader has a Barbie on her desk with a sign that says 'Assistant". So my sister brought in her Bilbo standee and put a similar sign on him. Now the most recent addition to their team is looking for the perfect assistant for himself. They often get caught up in geeky conversations at work and after Avengers came out, they had to go to several group lunches just to talk about it. My sister got her team leader to start watching Supernatural and all of them, including their supervisor, swap DVDs of TV shows and movies.

Suffice to say, it's a pretty cool place to work. There are the normal office headaches, of course, but it makes it all better when your coworker pops their head up over your cubicle and asks you who would win in a fight, Iron Man or Thor?

So, recently, the one coworker went on vacation and while he was gone, my sister and her other coworker did this to his cubicle.

More under the cut. )

Her coworkers all actually covered her meetings for her too, so she could take a week off while I was in the hospital. I bought her a gift basket of sweets as a 'thank you' for sitting with me in the ER and coming with me for all the testing, and then I bought a second gift basket for her coworkers as a 'thank you, for covering all her meetings for her. They really came through for us.

So, Wednesday I wrote a scene in a fic and then half of the next scene. And when I went back, the earlier scene was gone. Just…gone. I don’t know what happened to it! My sister tried to help me recover it, but it was a no-go. It was such a good scene too, the banter was spot-on. It was only 9pm and I had planned on writing until 10, but I was so upset about it and suddenly I felt too exhausted to even keep my eyes open. I literally climbed into bed and got under the covers at 9 at night.

But after I got in bed, I was flipping channels and I came across Iron Man 2, just in time for Coulson to tell Tony Stark that he would, ‘gladly taser you and then watch Supernanny while you drool on the carpet.’ Coulson always makes me feel better. Then my sister brought my IPad in and said she had been watching Community vids on it. We just started a rewatch - (apparently this is all my sister will ever want to watch from now on, but I can’t really complain about that) - and we were wondering how many scenes we would be able to recognize now that we have seen the full run. We noted that one of the scenes vidders use a lot in Jeff/Annie vids is actually about how Annie is in love with Troy while Jeff is a manipulative bastard, but it looks like something else entirely when set to music.

I spent a while watching Community vids myself and then decided to read some Community fic. There was this one story where Annie ends up dating the Black Rider - (there is actually a character tag for ‘Black Rider’ on AO3, btw) - whose name is Josh because obviously and then Jeff gets all jealous and I didn’t realize it was 20,000 words until I was already invested! I spent a good hour+ reading that - it was fun. There was this one scene where Abed is giving Jeff advice and Jeff asks Abed if anyone ever tells him how important he is and Abed says, “Troy tells me everyday.” Omg, you guys, The Feels!

On Thursday, I felt like crap and I think maybe I have an ear infection, idk, but that explains some of the tiredness the night before. I spent most of the afternoon reading fanfic and I am putting together a rec list, cuz there were some good ones in there. Then, in the evening, I made myself tackle the missing scene in my fic again because I knew if I let it sit, it would be weeks before I went back to it. I think I recaptured it pretty well, but the banter isn’t nearly as good as it was the first time around. But I pressed on and finished the scene after it as well, so about 3k written this week. I’ll take that.

I have finished The Nephew’s fic! It is at the beta! I have to do art tomorrow still though! So now let’s talk about Iron Man 3! Come join me!

Spoilers out my ass. )

In short, I was contemplating how I liked Iron Man 2 better than 1, and wondering if 3 would be better than 2, and you know what? IT WAS.
dodger_sister: (question)
So, yes, I have SO MANY THINGS TO SAY about the Iron Man movie. But I swore I would finish The Nephew's birthday fic before I let myself go off waving and flapping my hands like a crazed fangirl. I have to have this fic finished, beta'd, and arted by the 11th, so I'm trying to be responsible and not just sit here writing like a 3,000 word epic review of how everything is AWESOME. I'll be back for that hopefully tomorrow. I seriously think this fic only needs like 2,000 words more and I can bang that out tonight, right?

However, I just realized that today is May 5th, which is a day of significance. It is the day The BFF set up this LJ for me! It wasn't until the 13th that she showed it to me and helped me navigate through it all though. It was on the 13th that I made my first post, which is why I celebrate my actual LJ anniversary that day. But I know last year some of you wanted me to open my journal for any and all fandom-related questions in honor of my anniversary, so I thought I'd give that a go this time around. Like, ask me a question here and I'll put all the answers together into a post on the 13th!

Ask Me A (Fandom) Question: Anything related to fandom or LJ. Anything about my experince in fandom or on Livejournal. Anything about characters, otps, writing, fandoms I've been in, when I started, why I started, how I discovered it, challenge me to crossover two fandoms or make a summary for a rare pair, ask me about a fic I have posted, how LJ has influenced my life, why I have so many tags or icons, a fandom you wish I'd talk about more or less, ANYTHING even slightly semi-related to Fandom or Livejournal is fair game. HIT ME!

And since we are here and my birthday will be ten days after my LJ anniversary...Ask Me A (Real Life) Question: Anything about my life, barring my name and address, obvs. Come on, ask me about my family tree, past jobs, teenage years, literary influences, movie going experiences, hobbies, how I met my friends, family vacations, childhood pets, or just anything about my life you have ever wanted to know. HIT ME!

I'll post the answers to the fandom/LJ questions on my LJ anniversary, the 13th, and the real life questions on my birthday, the 23rd.

A few of my favorite things would be writing porn, my nephew, mocking Steve McGarrett, Tony Stark and the Dean/Cas AU “Asunder.”

I have written 2,200 words in the last two days. And it only took 1,000 words to get to the porn this time. I am very proud. That weird thing happened where I had an idea I was toying with and I had it pretty much planned out in full - and then something else popped into my brain and I ended up writing a completely different story. Guess my first idea will have to wait.

The Nephew called me the other day and said, "Okay, let's talk about superheroes. You pick a bad guy and I'll pick a bad guy and then we'll pick good guys and then we'll talk about how they would fight each other. Ready...go!" My nephew - a geekboy. <3

And now, I rec things. [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock and [livejournal.com profile] mklutz have been doing these podcasts - The Slash Report. Have you ever been sitting around in the living room with some fangirls and you are just talking about some random babbling fannish shit and you think, "Hmm, if someone had bugged our living room and were listening in right now, what the hell would they think about this stuff spewing from our faces?" It's like that.

Some things mentioned in the podcast include, but are not limited to... )

At some point these girls discuss Desert Island FanFic, as in if you only had three fics to read over and over again while stranded on a desert island. I find this weirdly funny because had someone asked me that, I would have said first on the list without hesitation is [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock’s Asunder. It is a Dean/Cas AU wherein Dean is a social worker and Cas is a surgeon and they are friends. Then Dean has to go to Sam's wedding and he hasn't really talked to Sam in a few years and omg, I don't want to spoil things. But how she writes Dean and Cas and the way they step around and towards each other...it’s amazingly perfect and everything I ever needed. And there is this great damaged, yet perfect relationship between Sam and Dean, as well as that whole “family we make” aspect that I love with Bobby, Ellen and Jo. So go read it.
