Distracted By Something Shiny

Just doing a very quick review of my 2017! ( My 2017! )

And now, for a New Years favor. After Mom died, I just couldn't handle anything except what had to be done. My mind sort of shut off, understandably. And there was so much to do, with her memorial, burial, estate, house. By the time I hit my pillow with my IPad in hand at 9pm every night, I didn't have time for blogging. Or Friend's Lists. So I missed three months of what is going on in your guys' lives! And I want to know! I plan on doing a mass comment catch-up this weekend and getting back on a blog schedule come 2018. Because I miss this place and I miss you guys and I want to know what's up with you! So, if you would oblige me, PLEASE, and drop a link in the comments from each month - October, November, December - that I missed. Just one link from each, one post you made on your LJ/DW from those months, to let me know what has been going on with my friends. And if you don't have anything major from a month, then drop links to pics of your furry babies or fic recs. Just give me something to get me up to speed, ya'll! PLEASE.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HERE'S TO AN AWESOME 2018 FOR US ALL!

So, apparently this weekend was Gaming Weekend around my house. Yesterday, Sis and I played 3 rounds of Smashup and I won, best out of 3! I can count on my fingers the number of times I have beat my sister at any games in our lives, so that was awesome. I got to be Ghost Aliens and Steampunk Robots and Shapeshifting Minions of Cthulhu.

Also, on Saturday, we had Geek Cousin and his girlfriend over. We played this one roleplay tabletop game where we had to fight off the bad guys and my character was a cyber-punk Eddie Redmayne. (I swear, that’s who he looked like!) GC’s character died and he told us we had to flee and I was all, “Fuck that, let’s fight to the end!” and he was like, "No, really, it’s in the rules, if one person dies, you have to flee.” I was like, "What kind of fellowship is this? What if when Boromir died Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli had just been like, ‘Oh well,’ and run away?!” So we ran and then GF died and GC was like, “You don’t escape, game over,” and again I was like, “What? No! Sorry, but we just leave her body behind and keep running,” and he was like, “Again, it’s in the rules, if one of you dies while fleeing, the game is over.” What kind of game is this?!

We also played this game called Geek Out which is AWESOME and we plan on buying it for ourselves. In it you get cards like, ‘Name 3 Avengers,’ and then your team gets to say, “Yes, we can do that,” and then the other team gets to outbid you, “Well, we can name 4,” and then you can counter, “We can name 5,” etc, until someone calls the other team’s bluff and then you have to name whatever you bid. Name 3 movies where a child is sucked into an alternate reality. Name 6 movies about alien invasions. Name 3 books about horses. Name 5 songs with Hell in the title. Etc. One of the things we got was name 6 Walking Dead characters. My sister and I kept outbidding each other until finally she called me at 26 characters and I had to do it. It was easy. I was only halfway through the characters in my head when I hit 26!

So I’m wondering, for my Walking Dead peeps, how many characters can you name? No cheating! I trust you not to look it up on IMDB. The person who names the most characters gets a TWD fic from me, how’s that? Name as many TWD characters as you can - Go!

Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day! Sadly, I don't actually own a pirate (or POTC) shirt, so I'm just wearing my new Spiderman tee. I should take a picture - it's super cool and all retro and shit. So, yes, I have SO MANY THINGS TO SAY about the Iron Man movie. But I swore I would finish The Nephew's birthday fic before I let myself go off waving and flapping my hands like a crazed fangirl. I have to have this fic finished, beta'd, and arted by the 11th, so I'm trying to be responsible and not just sit here writing like a 3,000 word epic review of how everything is AWESOME. I'll be back for that hopefully tomorrow. I seriously think this fic only needs like 2,000 words more and I can bang that out tonight, right?

However, I just realized that today is May 5th, which is a day of significance. It is the day The BFF set up this LJ for me! It wasn't until the 13th that she showed it to me and helped me navigate through it all though. It was on the 13th that I made my first post, which is why I celebrate my actual LJ anniversary that day. But I know last year some of you wanted me to open my journal for any and all fandom-related questions in honor of my anniversary, so I thought I'd give that a go this time around. Like, ask me a question here and I'll put all the answers together into a post on the 13th!

I know you are all looking at that icon and thinking, "How does that relate to May Day?" I'll tell you how! The BFF came in today and said, "It's May Day. We should all be engaging in pagan fertility orgies." And I said, "Really? Huh. There should be a May Day Big Bang."

After some discussion we decided it should be a May Day ficathon. There should be pagan goddess cursing people and sex pollen and orgies and rituals and poor unsuspecting Winchesters and yes, even MPreg. Someone grab that idea and run with it for next year, would you? Thanks.

Other things I need are some Kenzi icons from "Lost Girl". I've seen a few around lately on the journal of a flisty, but now I can't remember who. Or just Lost Girl icons in general would be nice. Anyone got a link rec for the pretties? I said 'Fuckballs' today in a comment and then I thought how wrong it felt to say that without a Kenzi icon. Plus, I love her and the shit Kenzi says. Girl owns my heart. If you help me out with this, it may encourage me to write Lost Girl fic. Or at the least, to say ridiculously awesome things ala Kenzi more often. /sweet smile/

Finally, does anyone know of an Avengers fic community? I searched LJ but alas, I find nothing. I need a place to crosspost my Darcy & Coulson fic. Plus, yes, there will be more Avengers fic from me in the future! Aren't you excited? Now I just need a place to pimp it out. Anyone know of a good spot?

So, I noticed last night, that according to my info page - the last post I made; the random one about my cousin's kid visiting, and seeing my grandpa, and meeting my physical therapist's daughter - WAS MY 200TH POST!!!

I find it amusing that it was just random shit from my daily life and not me fangirl-ing something - because when I got this LJ, I figured it would only contain me squeeing/ranting over random fangirl shit. I never thought I would just type up posts about having a nice visit with my little cousin. I certainly never thought I'd feel comfortable enough here to talk about physical therapy, or the fact that I even go to physical therapy at all. It actually makes me very happy that it was just a post about my life. I don't know why.

Alright, alright, aythia, I did a meme...see?

She's always tagging me to do these things and I am lame and never do. So this time, I thought I would, just to try something different...like actually doing things.

Don't expect major confessions here...I have to be in the mood for that chick-flick shit, you know.

1. The tornado sirens went off today. Yes, like five days before Halloween. That's weird, even for Michigan. Which lead me to think about the fact that I hate storms! I hate high winds and pouring rain and thunder and lightening. Mostly because I have actually been in TWO tornadoes in my life. They didn't touch down, but believe me, they don't have to. My fear makes me do the following things when it even starts to rain - put in my contact lens, put my shoes next to my bed, have my bag with my wallet and my week worth of pills nearby...all in case I have to flee and/or the house comes crashing down around us. (These things also help in case of a fire). And I put on either my fake dog tags or my fake One Ring, sometimes both, because yes, those things totally help.

2. I don't like to eat things that have crunchy things in them - like brownies with nuts in them. Because you bite into it and you're all, "Omg, what was that?" and someone is like, "Oh, I think it has nuts in it," and then later you find out it didn't have nuts in it and you don't know what you just ate! Or sometimes you are eating something with nuts in it, but any of those crunchy things could also be like a cockroach or something! YOU DON'T KNOW!!!

3. Three, er four, albums that remind me of the summer after I graduated high school - Alanis Morrisette's "Jagged Little Pill", Beastie Boys' "License To Ill" and both volumes of the Dazed and Confused soundtrack.

4. I have three cats - Audrey aka Papa Bear, Krycek aka Big Buddy, and Roo. I tend to talk more about my sister's cats because my cats are old and fat and don't do anything. Buddy thinks that "playing" means finding a piece of string and chewing on it. They are sweeties who like cuddles and pettings, but they don't ever do anything overly cute or new.

5. I got a job the summer between 8th and 9th grade at a child care and continued to work in child care for the next decade of my life. I did this until I was in my early twenties. Oddly, now I really don't like any kids, except the ones in my family. I don't know how I did it. They want things like all the time. Honestly. Though I do plan on taking this knowledge and totally using it to write an M2 daycare fic.

6. I am currently watching the following shows - Hoarders, Hellcats, NCIS LA, Nikita, Hawaii Five-O, Glee & Supernatural. I will soon be adding The Walking Dead, Psych and South Park to that list, as they return to television in the next few weeks. But where is my What Not To Wear?

7. It's a good thing this meme ended on an odd number, because I firmly and truly believe it is bad luck to end on an even number, unless it is a dividend of 10.


What? I have to tag people now? /grumble/ Fine, but only cuz this is the first meme I've ever done and I don't feel like being a rebel about it. But dude, aythia, we share way too many friends in common...seriously, I checked like five people to tag and they've already done this meme. Our flists are very over-lapping.

So, during a discussion with someone else, it came up that I both watch "Supernatural" and enjoy Supernatural Fandom with my RL best friend. It has happened a few times that I got shocked reactions from my Fandom-Peeps that I would share my secret fandom-ness with a RL person - namely The BFF.

But the thing is, I met The BFF through Fandom. And it was her that got me into "Supernatural" in the first place. And that led me to wonder how everyone else got started watching whatever their current obsession Show is.

And now I have Supernatural in my life...and I stumble alone in the dark no longer.
