C came over on Saturday and we cooked out, played a trivia game, sat around with our feet in the pool and chatted, then watched a movie. She brought her daughter along and we ended up talking about some issues she has been having that I actually was able to say, “I had those issues when I was your age and you would never guess it to know me now,” which I actually felt like I was able to help a little. We also talked a lot about young adult books and movies and C's two sons and all of their crazy drama. It was a really good day, actually.

I also watched a lot of movies this weekend...cut for space. )

And now I have spent all my time talking about those movies and didn’t even get to the documentary I watched, which honestly deserves a post of its own because the story behind it is so bizarre.

I think I manage to keep it pretty spoiler-free here, but I’ll go under a cut just in case you don’t want even the tiniest bit about the movie upfront.

Red Dawn, at last, at last! )

We also watched a movie that [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna brought with her called ‘Stardust’. It was based off a Neil Gaiman book and it was really quite good. It was a twisty-turny fairy tale type thing and it had some amazing actors in it. I rather liked the surprise of Ricky Gervais, but my favorite was De Niro as the pirate captain. I actually kind of want some fic about him now, just fun adventurey pirate stuff. All the brother-princes were great, Michelle Pfeiffer was amazing as the head witch, and Claire Danes was both sweet and gorgeous as the fallen star. The whole concept of a falling star hitting earth and being shocked into human form was very cool. The humor was very fun as well and it had a look to it that almost felt like book illustrations. Just a good fairy tale adventure story and I highly recommend it.

Now, who was it on my friends list that wrote Stardust into a J2? Because I didn’t know this movie when you wrote it, but about 15 minutes into the show I thought to myself, “Oh! This is the movie that J2 was based off of!”

I saw both those movies in the same day and it combined that night with me dreaming about the kids from Red Dawn fighting off an invasion…of witches. Though I seem to recall that at least some of the witches were from Shrek as well because I’d been watching that a bit the day before. That’s just how my subconscious rolls.

My Thanksgiving weekend was really good actually. [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna came down on Wednesday afternoon and we spent a good three hours just talking; about fandom, writing, TV, her new job. Then when my sister came home, we decided to go out to eat. After, my sis had some cooking to do for the next day, so we put on That 70s Show and just hung out while she cooked.

On Thursday, we went to my mom’s for dinner. She was excited both to be hosting her first holiday dinner in her new house and also that I brought a friend along. While we were there, I actually got to see her cat, Whispa. She is a kitten of Zippo and Papa Bear, so that means she is Roo and Buddy’s (my current cats) sister. I haven’t seen her in so long because she always hides under the bed whenever someone comes in the house. But my sister dragged her out and as soon as Whispa saw me she reached out one little paw for me. It’s been around 8 years since I lived in the same house as her, but she always was a total sweetie.

Here is a picture of Whispa. )

Thursday night we watched our traditional Buffy Thanksgiving episode and then my sister wanted to watch the Demon-Giles episode, since Giles is her favorite, and [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna wanted to watch the episode where the Initative tries to kill Buffy and Buffy is super badass.

On Friday we went and saw Red Dawn - (oh, I have things to say! I have things to say about another movie we watched this weekend as well, so I’ll save that for tomorrow’s post). At any rate, if you want ridiculous fun with hotties and guns, this is the movie for you. The BFF came with us and afterwards we played some movie trivia game and we all got a little silly. Then we watched another movie, which I will talk about later because it was very interesting.

On Saturday my sister and I went to my dad’s, where The Nephew demanded my attention every second and also loaned me some comic that he would like me to read, so we can 'call each other and talk about it'. Fanboys FTW, right? It was a Spiderman comic, so the boy has good tastes. That night we watched X-Men: First Class and I still see the Darwin/Alex every damn time.

[livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna went home on Sunday and I have just been chilling ever since. I got really tired Wednesday night, got some nasty vertigo, which usually only happens when I am exhausted or sick or something. After that I tried to pace myself better and I don’t feel nearly as wiped now as I thought I would.

Honestly, one of the better Thanksgiving weekends I have had in a long while. Oh, and we put the Christmas tree up and got in the spirit by watching ‘Elf’. And last night I watched the Leverage Christmas episode, so there you go. How were all your weekends?

Yes, I am a dork.

I have many things going on this weekend; a fangirl friend is here for the holiday and we haven’t seen each other in forever, so that's awesome - (it’s Geek-Giving at my house this year!), and we have dinner at my mom’s on Thanksgiving and Red Dawn viewage on Friday - (I AM SO EXCITED I THINK I MIGHT BE SHAKING!! I have waited too damn long for this day!), and dinner at my dad’s on Saturday with my brother, sis-in-law and The Nephew as well and then probably visiting my grandparents on Sunday. So many things that I think I need to schedule in ‘sleep’ for Monday.

In the meantime, I have given you all plenty of things to occupy your weekend, should they be less busy than mine. My Leverage fic here, a Dean/Cas Big Bang rec here, my pimping of a comment meme here and just for giggles, if you so desire, my Wee!chester Thanksgiving fic of old here.

HAVE A GOOD THANKSGIVING/WEEKEND/RED DAWN DAY, EVERYBODY!!!

First, let me just say that as I was scrolling through my July archives to see what fic I had posted in years past, I came across two things of note. a) I was legit bitching in a post back in July of 2010 about how Red Dawn is never coming out. Apparently, even back then I thought the wait had already been too long for the release of this movie. Little did I know how much longer I would have to wait. And b) I was scrolling by posts and I saw this jump out at me - Please tell Jeremy Renner to come over later and make-out with me. K? Thanx. It was a letter directed at Ben Affleck about his movie The Town. I'm just sayin', I have always had good tastes in men, okay? (Still haven't actually seen The Town yet though - should make sure it is in the Netflix).

Now word county stuffs: Almost forgot to post this month. I went to put in my word count from yesterday (2,350 words!) and I saw that last month's list was still in the document. Oops. I would say it is a pretty diverse month, but I feel like I always say that, don't I? Still five different fandoms this month, including Falling Skies fic, so add a brand new fandom to my list! Also, the cabin fic that I wrote out by hand ended up being 300 words more than I had estimated once I had typed it out. But so very, very little on The BFF's fic.

Here is my approximate word count for the month.

July, 2012
Week One: 550 words of Leverage fic.
Week Two: 1,700 words of Falling Skies Tom/Weaver fic. Completed.
Week Three: 1,550 words of Christian/Jensen AU fic.
Week Four: 1,500 words of SPN Weechester Cabin fic. Completed.
Week Four and a Half: 700 words of Secret Crossover fic.

6,000 words written in July!

Fics posted in Julys past. )

My goal between now and the end of September is to finish The BFF's fic - it already has 8,000 words and it needs about 4,000 more, I think, to be completed. I also want to finish The Nephew's back-to-school fic which I started yesterday. That needs about 1,500 more words or so. And, of course, the birthday fic I started for [livejournal.com profile] wolfrider89 last year right before I went into the hospital. That one needs another 2,500 words, possibly more. It is going to be a challenge though because I stopped right in the middle of a sex scene and it is hard to start back up again right in the flow of porn, you know? If I have time, I would also like to finish the little Leverage fic I am working on. It needs another 1,000 words and I figure I can work on it when I am feeling tapped out on the other stories. That's about 9,000 words in six weeks - I can do that, right?

You guys, you guys, OMG, OMG, OMG YOU GUYS!!!!

My squee level was already pretty high after The BFF sent me the new Red Dawn trailer - (more on that in a minute) - but I just read that Enrique Murciano will be on the new 666 Park Avenue this fall!! MY BOY, BACK ON TV!!!! I know, I know, he had a thing on NCIS, but this will be like an almost-regular thing. 666 Park Avenue is not a show I had planned on watching, as much I enjoy me some Terry O'Quinn - it just didn't spark anything in me when I read the synopsis. But it didn't sound awful or anything. In fact, it kind of sounds like a supernatural version of Melrose’s Place, being that it is an apartment building full of people who have made deals with the devil. Oh wait, that sounds exactly like Melrose’s Place. So I was kind of 'maybe, maybe not' on watching it, but now...OH YEAH, BABY!!! And he is going to be PLAYING A DOCTOR and it sounds like there will be SEXYTIMES and okay…I know it is stupid, but I actually have tears of total happiness in my eyes right now. My boy.

For those of you that are like, "Who? What now?"…here is a pic of my boy.
Enrique - face sexy
See, see why I am excited?! Watch 666 Park Avenue this fall so we can talk about how hot my boy is, okay? Cool.

Okay, I'll cut for space because I can see how much this is taking up on your Flists - (new stupid LJ album, I can't figure out how to make the picture of Enrique smaller) - but RED DAWN WHOO-YAY under the cut...So look under here, you'll be sorry if you don't!! )

Um, I need to go to sleep now. I get foul-mouthed and crazed when I am excited. This was too much...I feel like a toddler crashing from a sugar high after a Wiggles concert.
