Distracted By Something Shiny

Hope you all are having wonderful Easters/Sundays/Whatevers! We don’t have any family things this year, so Sis decided to take plates of food to various homebound family members. She got all precooked stuff, but still good - ham, potatoes (in garlic sauce), mixed veggies, deviled eggs, rolls and pie. She made up a stack of plates with the food on them and we will be taking one each to Dad, his roommate, Grandma and the uncle that lives down the street from Grandma. We also gave one to our cousin who stopped by today to help put together the new guest bed and left one in the fridge for my brother to have on a lunch break this week, as he’s been working down the street at Mom’s house doing some construction for her. I get all the leftovers! Well, I have to share a little bit with my sister, but mostly I get all the leftovers.

When I told my dad we were coming for a visit this weekend, he said, “Oh good, I need someone to take my recyclables.” I said, “That’s it, that’s the only reason you’re excited?” And he goes, dead serious, “Well, no, you’re bringing the dog too, right?” I’m like, “Yeah, okay, Dad, I know the dog outranks your own kids, damn.” Dads, I swear.

Anyways, we are going to have delicious Easter dinner and hopefully some nice visits too.

Hello and Happy Easter, friends! I didn't have any family obligations this year, but after my sister went to church, we took a trek out to the farm to visit Grandma and take her some flowers. Then we spent the rest of the day watching Law & Order: SVU, as one does, and I had a nice phone call with The BFF, since we didn't get to see each other this week. I just wanted to take this moment to say Happy Easter to all of my peeps - (get it, 'peeps', ahahaha, yeah, I may need to go to bed now). Anyways, you guys are the best! For Thanksgiving this year, we are just going to my dad’s for dinner. My brother called executive decision on it, because they have both my mom and dad to deal with, plus his in-laws and his wife’s work schedule - (she works at Wendys and is a manger, but not the head-manager, which makes her days off not very flexible). So he declared that this year we are just doing Thanksgiving with Dad and Christmas with Mom. Dad doesn’t care about the actual holidays, he just wants to have a sit-down meal with his kids and grandkids. Mom, otoh, makes a big deal out of holidays and would freak if she didn’t get to have a Christmas celebration. So this seemed like a good compromise. I would rather stay home, but my sister says I don’t get pumpkin pie if I don’t go. Plus I want to see the kids and my sis-in-law is a pretty good cook. So there’s that. And then after dinner, Sis and I are coming home for Who-giving, where we just marathon Doctor Who all weekend long, in our pajamas, eating leftover pie. I’ve only ever seen a handful of episodes before and not in any order, so this will be quite an awesome weekend, in the end.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I got up like four hours earlier than normal for Family Easter Breakfast. (Why do these things always have to be at our house?) We usually just have like a half dozen people, all of the family who aren’t married and don’t have other family places to go. This year we extended it a little, to about fifteen people, in an effort to encourage my grandmother to come as well. No one thought she would. She made a big show of telling us she would try but not to count on her. She was worried it would be overwhelming and she would cry. We told her no one would care if she cried and everyone knows she just lost her husband of 70 years, so cry away if she needs to. But Grandma will not stand for crying in front of people. Showing our emotions is taboo. I was raised like that too - your emotions are for private, not the whole world, don’t make a scene. But damn the woman is 88 years old, she can make a scene all she needs too, she’s earned the right!

So we figured she wouldn’t show up - but then she did!! She came for an hour, about half of the allotted time and everyone was so glad to see her. It was fantastic. I am so happy she showed up. Also my mom brought her dog, wearing one of his new shirts, and everyone made a fuss over him. Mom wanted the people who had helped us out during this ordeal to see how good Winston is doing. And also The Boy Cousin is turning fourteen in a few days - (how old does that make me feel? He was my baby boy when he was little and now he’s a foot taller than me). We ran into him last weekend and he asked if we were having cake for his birthday at this thing and we laughed at him. Then we had someone bring cupcakes and my sister put fourteen candles on one of the tiny little cupcakes - (it was ridiculous looking) - and then we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him really loudly and embarrassed the shit out of him. It was lolarious. He will never insist we celebrate his birthday again.

Anyways, I hope all of your Easters and/or Sundays were good ones and I hope you had as nice of weather, wherever you are, as we did here - 70F and sunny!

I swear, I kept spacing that today was Valentine's Day. All week long. I invited C over for movie night for tonight and then was like, "Wait...it's Valentine's Day on Friday?". I would remember and then forget - idek what's up. I usually get my mom to run to the store for me and pick up something for my sister, but Mom has been super sick all week and the cool aunt who sometimes takes me shopping is in Florida for the winter, so I felt bad but I couldn't get my sister anything. She went and got herself some chocolates (and some for me) but then they turned out just to be milk chocolate hearts and she wanted the assorted mix-n-match kind (those are my favorites too), so I gave her some money to run out tomorrow and get us ridiculous amounts of discounted chocolates to stuff ourselves with all weekend long. Good times! I also have run out of printer ink, so I had to email her the card I made her, but she really loved it. She's been talking like Jesse Pinkman all night, worse and worse the later it got in the day! So I thought I'd share the card with all of you.

I HOPE ALL YOUR VALENTINE'S DAYS WERE DELICIOUS AND SWEET!!

Hello all! Quick update - Feeling better cough-wise, not 100%, but finally got someone to take some action on a treatment for me. Body is failing me due to many days in bed and inactivity - very bad for the arthritis. Boo that, but it'll stretch out as I get back on my feet, I think. Hoping to maybe get to see The Hobbit some time in the next week, as I haven't felt well enough to go yet. (it's driving me up the walls not to have seen it yet!) Missed most of the family holiday gatherings due to sickness, but other than missing the kids (and not getting The Nephew's project finished) I was mostly okay with staying home for that stuff. Did attend a small fraction of the extended family gathering and that is a whole story unto itself. Also have some therapy stories for you and hopefully my sister will relay enough of her trip this weekend to see The Hobbit with The Nephew for me to make a post on that. I did not get around to Christmas cards this year, but I bought them, so I'll save them and try again next year!

Anyways, I was going to put up pictures of Zippo, The Christmas Queen, for you all, as I did that over on Tumblr, but LJ doesn't seem to want to let me upload any new photos to my scrapbook. Anybody know what's up? It offers me my all-ready made scrapbook albums or a Dropbox option (for which I do not have an account) but no 'upload from computer' or whatever. What's the deal, LJ? So, until I figure that out, it means I can only post pictures I already have loaded. Which I guess means I just have to spam you with every Christmasy picture I have in my scrapbook! Enjoy!

Yes, I am a dork.

I have many things going on this weekend; a fangirl friend is here for the holiday and we haven’t seen each other in forever, so that's awesome - (it’s Geek-Giving at my house this year!), and we have dinner at my mom’s on Thanksgiving and Red Dawn viewage on Friday - (I AM SO EXCITED I THINK I MIGHT BE SHAKING!! I have waited too damn long for this day!), and dinner at my dad’s on Saturday with my brother, sis-in-law and The Nephew as well and then probably visiting my grandparents on Sunday. So many things that I think I need to schedule in ‘sleep’ for Monday.

In the meantime, I have given you all plenty of things to occupy your weekend, should they be less busy than mine. My Leverage fic here, a Dean/Cas Big Bang rec here, my pimping of a comment meme here and just for giggles, if you so desire, my Wee!chester Thanksgiving fic of old here.

I am almost tempted to watch Kimmel tonight, just to see if he mentions how it is his boyfriend's birthday. No, I don't care that it was like eight years ago that Jimmy Kimmel made that Fucking Ben Affleck video - it is still the funniest thing for-ev-er. But 40. Damn. I know, I know, I'm 34 now, I should just get over it. I just have a hard time with how the people I watched as a teenager are now in their 40s and shit. David Duchovny turned 52 the other day. 52!! That shit is Not Allowed.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

In Weather News - it was freaking windy today! It sounded like a banshee outside - there were these terrible screeching noises and everything. I was worried about ceitfianna walking to work, but then I remembered she was out of town. My sister has this high-up window in her bedroom that she leaves open so the cats can get in their perch and look out. So today all of a sudden the bedroom door slammed shut and I was like, "Um, hello?" - kind of freaked out. So I opened the door and a little while later, it slammed shut again. Finally this time I realized she had her bedroom window open and it was from the wind. (The Nephew said, "Did you think it was an invisible person slamming the door?") Also, yesterday it rained so much that we have standing water in our backyard. It didn't storm too bad but we just got several down-pours. Weird stuff.
