Book Meme!

This meme was going around on Tumblr and I thought I would give it a try. There are so many books that have stuck with me over the years, it is hard to pick just ten. And then some of them I can’t remember the names of! There was this children’s book that I checked out from the library every single time I went for like a year straight at the age of 6. I still vividly remember the part about the chocolate river, but I was 6, so I have no idea of the name of this book. (Actually, I’ve been trying to remember for years now, if it sounds familiar to anyone!) So, here we go:

Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Then tag 10 friends.

The Stand by Stephen King.
The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King.
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
The Outsiders and also That Was Then, This is Now by SE Hinton.
Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher.
The Hobbit and also The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien.
The Chronicles of Narnia (in particular The...Wardrobe and Dawn Treader) by C.S. Lewis.
Number The Stars by Lois Lowry.
The Pokey Little Puppy by Janette Sebring Lowrey.
C D B by William Steig.

I spent just a few minutes thinking on these and I still came up with like 20, so yeah, I scrunched a few together, which is probably cheating, but whatever. Also, I just cut the ones that were last to pop into my head, not for any 'ranking' reasons. But here are the cut ones anyways: The Elenium series by David Eddings, World War Z by Max Brooks, The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Bloodroots by Richie Tankersley Cusick, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, The Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling and The Princess & The Goblin series by George MacDonald.

Alright, for tagging, I say if you follow me and your user-name starts with the letter A - M, consider yourself tagged! (Or if you name starts with something else but you just want to do this meme anyways!)

IT'S INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!!! I HOPE YOU'VE ALL BEING SAYING, 'ARGH, AVAST, MATEY,' ALL DAMN DAY!!

I think my cousin pointed this holiday out to me on the third year these guys were doing it, so quite awhile ago, because it's a whole thing now! International Talk Like A Pirate Day = proof of what some dudes can do with a ridiculous thought and the internet.

Have this video of Lego Pirates dancing to "What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor?"

I think the shark is my favorite.

(and I swear this is The Irish Rovers singing this song - Mom took me to see them in concert several times as a child).

Randomly, today I thought about Community as The Stand - (which is like the highest form of compliment my brain can pay a show, honestly). Jeff is the disgraced ex-lawyer trying to outrun his past. Annie is the senior class president who was brought down by her drug addiction. Shirley's husband ran off with another woman a year before the outbreak that ended up taking their children. Britta has always claimed she wanted to save the world, but she's starting to think she kind of likes it better like this. Troy was the most popular boy in high school, thought he had it all figured out, until now. Abed didn't know what to do after his father died from the plague, so he buried him and kept going in every day and opening up the falafel shop. Pierce is the crazy old billionaire, content to stay locked away in his mansion until the dreams told him to go to Greendale Community College Boulder.

Yeah, that's how my brain works.

So my favorite apocalyptic-type movie (of many that I love) has to be Independence Day. Though Deep Impact holds a really close second for me. Those are two of my top three most watched movies of all time - (the third is Jurassic Park, if you wanted to know).

How about you all…favorite apocalypse/post-apocalypse/near-apocalypse movie?

Also, the other day I was flipping the channel and I came across a movie called ‘Christmas Twister’. You guys, it combined my two favorite types of movies in one - bad natural disaster flicks and Christmas movies! Yes, I watched it. Yes, it was awesomely clichéd, right down to the family dog.

And now, in the spirit of the holiday, an apocalypse vid. I went looking for an apocalypse movie fanvid, but then I found this. All the things I love, I’m not even kidding! Even Jericho! Plus, excellent song choice - it’s very catchy and will get stuck in your head.

Watch now and enjoy the apocalypse!

Remember, we all meet up in Boulder, Colorado at the end times.

Since it is Friday the 13th, I thought we could talk about movies that scare me. Like really scare me. Because some movies are a little suspenseful or have some good jump-fright moments, but finding a movie that actually settles inside me for awhile is hard to do.

6 Movies that scared me. )

So, how about you all? Movies that scared you?

I need Community icons now. I need Community everything, pretty much, all the time now. I had seen a few special episodes (paintball #2, Law & Order, etc), but my sister got The BFF the first two seasons for her birthday last week and we spent the whole holiday weekend marathoning the first season. I love them all. I can't pick a favorite - but oh, I know where I stand on the shipping because that thing that happened at the end of the first season? Oh Yeah. My sister and I need to run out and buy our own copies because The BFF will be taking hers with her and WE NEED ALL THE COMMUNITY!! You know I am like gone crazy about this because I have been thinking about a Plague Apocalypse where the members of the study group start meeting up with each other, you know, having been strangers before. Think "The Stand" but with The Community peeps. Fun, right? (you know I have gone for a new show when I start 'apocalypsing' it).

Anyhoo, all of this leads me to [livejournal.com profile] flawed_x_design's birthday!!! Happy birthday!! [livejournal.com profile] flawed_x_design pointed out to me awhile back how Misha Collins and Joel McHale were friends, showed me that Misha went to Joel's birthday party and gave me clips of Misha on The Soup with Joel and...well, it's pretty much all her fault that I ship Misha/Joel now!!! ALL HER FAULT!!! And now that I am all about Joel McHale, this makes me even happier. So, in that honor...

This is Misha. This is Joel.
This is Misha and Joel.

Want, take, have, everyone.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY!!!

My weekend - I can't even remember what I did on Friday night. It feels like ages ago.

Saturday, we went to see "Source Code".

This is what the movie is about - Spoiler Free, I swear - with my own rambling recommendation... )

I realize I have seen a lot of movies at the theater lately. The Sister got her vacation pay from the old job and has been very generous about it. Yay, Sister!

On Sunday, I filed away almost a year's worth of mail. I'm not kidding, I had things from May 2010 in that stack. I worked on it for 7 hours. Sadly, no fic reading for me this weekend.

But "The Stand" was on SyFy, so I watched that because it takes no concentration as I was filing things.

Now I will ramble about who I liked in the casting and who I would cast in a remake. )

That's as far as I got. Any suggestions?
