I can barely contain myself for Saturday, you guys. Because…I am going on a cruise! Just me & Sis. No, no kids! Just 2 middle-aged nerds. It’s my first cruise. And it’s a doozy. A Disney Star Wars 7-night Caribbean cruise!

In case you don’t know what that entails, we start our first day setting sea and then doing a safety presentation followed by like 20 minutes of song & dance with all the Disney characters.

Under the cut for spaceage. )

And, of course, we got a room with a balcony over the ocean, so downtime will be wonderful too! Like I said, I can barely stand to wait! This vacation has been 2 years in the making - we decided on it a few months after Mom’s heart attack in Fall 2015, thinking we deserved a sister-vacation after several months dealing with so much stress. But between Mom’s health & unexpected financial things, we never quite made it. So now, here at last, we will be setting sail. Sister-vacation is a go!

Happy Halloween!!!

My sister had to bribe them with treats and even so, she couldn't get them in the same shot. Kirk does not like this ridiculousness - he is Captain James T. Kirk, dammit! Pippin loves it. He is so pretty as a unikitty and he knows it!

Hope you all have good holidays/weekends!

Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day! Sadly, I don't actually own a pirate (or POTC) shirt, so I'm just wearing my new Spiderman tee. I should take a picture - it's super cool and all retro and shit. Anyways, I went looking for a graphic to post to celebrate this fantastic holiday and came across a quiz that gives you your pirate name.

My pirate name is: Mad Morgan Kidd!
Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate.

I like it! Come on, tell me what your pirate name is! Take the quiz here!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

IT'S INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!!! I HOPE YOU'VE ALL BEING SAYING, 'ARGH, AVAST, MATEY,' ALL DAMN DAY!!

I think my cousin pointed this holiday out to me on the third year these guys were doing it, so quite awhile ago, because it's a whole thing now! International Talk Like A Pirate Day = proof of what some dudes can do with a ridiculous thought and the internet.

Have this video of Lego Pirates dancing to "What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor?"

I think the shark is my favorite.

(and I swear this is The Irish Rovers singing this song - Mom took me to see them in concert several times as a child).

Randomly, today I thought about Community as The Stand - (which is like the highest form of compliment my brain can pay a show, honestly). Jeff is the disgraced ex-lawyer trying to outrun his past. Annie is the senior class president who was brought down by her drug addiction. Shirley's husband ran off with another woman a year before the outbreak that ended up taking their children. Britta has always claimed she wanted to save the world, but she's starting to think she kind of likes it better like this. Troy was the most popular boy in high school, thought he had it all figured out, until now. Abed didn't know what to do after his father died from the plague, so he buried him and kept going in every day and opening up the falafel shop. Pierce is the crazy old billionaire, content to stay locked away in his mansion until the dreams told him to go to Greendale Community College Boulder.

Yeah, that's how my brain works.

I just wanted to say a quick thank-you to [livejournal.com profile] lizibabes, [livejournal.com profile] princesslanie, [livejournal.com profile] afra_schatz and [livejournal.com profile] denig37 for the yummy gingerbread men! In fact, I love gingerbread men. Someone in my family used to make them for holiday parties when I was younger and I loved them. Now The BFF provides me with my fix every Christmas.

So, thank you for my virtual yummies!!!

Since I never shared with you all what I got for Christmas last year from The BFF, let me do so now and also what I got this year!

I feel like there should be a warning on this cut. )

She framed it and it now has a place of honor on my dresser right next to my muscle car and under my row of boyfriend-magnets.

And now......this year's present of win! )

I love it like a stupid amount. I need to get to the store and get a new white bra, so I can wear it immediately!

My sister got me pjs (so needed those), Sucker Punch (this movie speaks so strongly to me of the power of stories and story-telling and its ability to save us, quite literally, and for that I love it, plus amazing visuals), first season of Lost Girl (I hugged it, I did, because Kenzi & Hale and Trick, omg! I love them). She also put some weird stuff in my stocking (she likes to do that, but nothing tops last year’s Bieber notepad ) including magnets of those creepy ass Paul Frank monkeys which she knows I am freaked out by! And new barrettes, which I also needed.

What all did you guys get? Share with the group!

So, when we lived in an apartment, we never did anything for Halloween (except watch scary movies). Now that we live in a house, we go all out. The first year we started with a few tombstones and the giant spider. Every year we try to add a few more tombstones and some larger item. This year we added the bat. It is way bigger than an actual bat but still looks very realistic. It actually creeps me out quite a bit. When we got it home, we realized that it lights up and screeches as well. The neighbor kids are prone to daring each other to sneak up and touch something in the yard and then run away - I hope the bat "wakes up" on them and makes them crap their pants!

Anyways, I thought I would share some pictures.

Yep, this is my house.

More creepy crawlies under the cut. )

Yeah, we really enjoy Halloween around here. I don't know what scary movies we will select for this year, but we tend to turn on something we have seen a thousand times while we pass out candy. I feel like watching some H2O this year maybe.

It's International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

I have been aware of this special holiday for many years now, though I mostly forget about it until it's already over. But I remembered this year! Anyways, there are these guys who had just decided that one day a year, they were going to talk like pirates. Makes total sense. The story of how the whole thing took off was pretty amusing - if you want to read it, look I found you a link. I keep meaning to buy their book.

So, since it is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, I thought I would let Wakko teach you the proper way to do this...

And since I am putting up Animaniacs clips anyway...

If I had remembered ahead of time that it was today, I would have cleaned up the one and only Pirates of the Caribbean fic I ever wrote. Though it has very little to do with being a pirate and more to do with porn. ;)

Okay then. I am sadly off to take Papa Bear to the vet again. He has now decided he just doesn't want to eat, even though I bought him special wet food and started heating it up for him. Hopefully they can give him an appetite stimulant or something. My poor old boy.

Yes, it is my birthday today! (I've gotten some lovely messages today from all of you, which I will respond to tomorrow, but it occurs to me that I should put up a post or something).

On Saturday we had to go visit my dad, so I managed to get some coney dogs out of my sister, from the ice cream place down the street from my childhood home. Arguably the best coney dogs ever. And my dad was in a pretty good mood, so that was good.

Yesterday we watched "Hotel Rwanda". I rec you all watch this movie - you need too. But be prepared, I couldn't stop crying. At one point I opened my mouth to say I wanted to turn it off, but I managed to brave through it. Remarkable story. I am interested in the commentary, which has the actual dude on it with the director and stuff. My husband, Joaquin, was in it a very little bit, but he looked really good. Apparently, I like the beard. The moment when he was getting on the bus - lord, break my heart.

Neither of those were really birthday things but I just wanted to share.

Then today The BFF - (it's also her birthday, how awesome is that?! Seriously.) - and I went to see "Pirates 4". I guess I'll spoiler cut even though I have only thirteen words for you. Here. )

Then my mom came over with my favorite chocolate cake. Delicious. I will vent about how she is crazy later - this is not the time. We mustn't despair. Not on Rex Manning Day.

So, now...you will most likely never see me post a pic of my grown-up self, probably, but let me share with you now...this pic of me as a baby.

For my birthday. )

Lastly, I take pride in being a bit hobbity. Also, my first online fandom was "Lord of the Rings". Today being my 33rd birthday, as you well know, means that in Hobbit years, I have finally come of age. That's right - it is my Coming of Age today. Also, as is Hobbit tradition, I am required to give presents to all of you on my own birthday.

So, later, after I chill out for a bit - there shall be fic. I managed to work "Supernatural" and "Lord of the Rings" into a fic together - but not as a crossover. ;)

So come back for that later.

Cool.
