I made it back from Chicago. You guys would not believe the weather we hit. I'll tell you about it later, but eventually we got there, had a great Galentine's, went to the planetarium today and are home now, unpacked and in bed with like 10 minutes left to Valentine's Day, so here is a little something for all of my lovely Flisties!

This is the Valentine's Day card I got from The Nephew! Look, look, it's Wicket! Awwww. This is too cute!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, MY FRIENDS!
dodger_sister: (chuck shurley)
I’ve fallen behind in my word count goals already. I actually started out the first week of the year doing really well, was even ahead for a little bit. But now I’ve stalled and I don’t really have anything I am working on that will spur me into catching up. Keeping up, yes, but not catching up. I need to be inspired. And I remember how well it worked when I was trying to get to an end-of-the-year goal in 2014 and I asked for pairings and prompts for the Mistletoe series I did. I met the goal I was striving for and then some, plus I did it in less time than I had allotted.

I was kind of hoping to repeat that occurrence.

And since we have a holiday less than a month away, I thought I’d go with that. No, no, not Valentine’s Day. I mean Galentine’s Day. February 13th. The celebration of one’s female friendships. Or gals, as it were.

So, if you guys don’t mind, could you hit me up with some female friendship prompts. Unlike the Mistletoe series - which was all about mistletoe - I don’t have a theme in mind this time, though I am sure I will find a way to tie them all together and give them a cool series name. But yeah, anything is welcome - any fandom, any female characters, any prompts. Anything you can think of. The fics themselves will center around female friendships, which should be celebrated more often!

Valentine’s Day for me, for years, since I moved in with my sister, has been about saying ‘thank you’ and ‘I love you’ to the people in my life. The BFF, Sister, sending cards to all the kids in the family, etc. I was delighted to discover Galentine’s Day, because it’s just an extension of what I kind of already celebrated.

So, yeah, help me get inspired, send me some prompts, kick me in my lazy butt and get me writing again!

Jon Stewart is retiring. I can’t…just no. This’ll be his last year at The Daily Show. I am so sad. Bad enough I lost Craig Ferguson this year. I feel like I just found out one of my best friends is moving to Australia. I mean, sure, I’ll see him once every five years or something, for a quick evening, but he’s not coming to my house for dinner four nights a week anymore. It really does feel like losing a friend. Sometimes being a fangirl sucks - I get too attached, dammit!

Also, two nights ago I had to get up to pee like 6 times and I could not get comfortable. I was already going to the doctor’s yesterday, so I had them check for a UTI and yep, got one of those. Ugh. I feel so drained. It’s just a stupid little infection, but it makes me feel so spoonless. The last time I had a UTI, I passed out on the toilet and ended up in the hospital. So obvs, now I am all anxious about it, every time I go to the bathroom, I’m all, “Please don’t wake up on the floor, please don’t wake up on the floor.” And I have to take an antibiotic, which I am deathly allergic to like 80% of the ones out there, so even though I am sure this one will be okay, it makes me anxious. I hate even the possibility of death-allergies.

Tomorrow I have to go to the eye doctor, which, with drive time, is like a 5 hour day. So that’s going to suck. The BFF did 2 tarot readings on me yesterday, to practice her skills, and basically what we came away with was, ‘This week is going to blow and be a downer and just try not to be your own worst enemy and it’ll get better by the weekend.’ Which, yep, I will be my own worst enemy by getting all worked up about the chance of passing out, being terrified of the toilet, and afraid to take the medicine that will make me better. Boo all of that.

In funnier news, I tried to text my sister to ‘bring me some cran juice’ and it autocorrected it to, ‘bring me some dean juice.’ The BFF said that is probably not the thing to make a UTI better. lol So now I am just trying to relax as much as I can and make it through to Friday - cuz Galentine’s Day will be awesome! We are going to eat waffles for dinner in Leslie Knope’s honor.

That is all.

I swear, I kept spacing that today was Valentine's Day. All week long. I invited C over for movie night for tonight and then was like, "Wait...it's Valentine's Day on Friday?". I would remember and then forget - idek what's up. I usually get my mom to run to the store for me and pick up something for my sister, but Mom has been super sick all week and the cool aunt who sometimes takes me shopping is in Florida for the winter, so I felt bad but I couldn't get my sister anything. She went and got herself some chocolates (and some for me) but then they turned out just to be milk chocolate hearts and she wanted the assorted mix-n-match kind (those are my favorites too), so I gave her some money to run out tomorrow and get us ridiculous amounts of discounted chocolates to stuff ourselves with all weekend long. Good times! I also have run out of printer ink, so I had to email her the card I made her, but she really loved it. She's been talking like Jesse Pinkman all night, worse and worse the later it got in the day! So I thought I'd share the card with all of you.

The card I made my sister.
Valentine Jesse Pinkman - dodger-sister
And this video I found and sent her along with the card, of a montage of Jesse saying 'yo' a lot.

The box of chocolates she bought me.

Why yes, we are dorks.

I HOPE ALL YOUR VALENTINE'S DAYS WERE DELICIOUS AND SWEET!!

Just getting this in under the cut! Last month's word count. Last month I worked on a few things; more of my Leverage Apartment AU - (which is shaping up to be a lot longer and way more involved than my original idea was when I started writing it!) - my Johanna/Annie Hunger Games fic - (whoo, it's finally finished, after months of letting it sit) - and one little piece of crack based on a smartass remark from my sister about Legolas that highly amused us both. That’s one more WIP checked off my list! All in all, a pretty good month.

Here is my approximate word count for the month.

February, 2013
Week One: 1,250 words of Johanna/Annie fic.
Week Two: 1,100 words of Leverage AU fic.
Week Three: 1,050 words of Leverage AU fic.
Week Four: 250 words of LOTR Crack fic. Completed.
2,400 words of Johanna/Annie fic. Completed.

6,050 words written in February!

Fics posted in February, 2012. )

This month I have worked on two things; a Teen Wolf fic and a Chicago Fire fic. The Teen Wolf fic is that happy thing of having All The Ideas and having the scenes just pour out of me, and even when I am not writing, having the scenes just forming and playing out in my head. The downside - not enough time to get it all out! I don't know what's up with my Teen Wolf muse, but every story idea I have seems to be wanting to take at least 10,000 words to write. You would think Teen Wolf would inspire ridiculous fun little fic ideas instead of these lengthy plot pieces that keep coming. Oh, Teen Wolf, how you never stop surprising me.

You guys, look what I got in the mail this week from The Nephew!!

Valentine's Day Card - 2013

HE BOUGHT HOBBIT VALENTINE'S DAY CARDS!!! My little geeky fanboy! I could not even fathom how I could possibly be prouder right now. I got Nori, Ori & Dori. I am pretty sure my sister got Thorin. Or maybe it was Dwalin, I can't remember now.

Then my mom came over and showed me the card she bought to send to The Nephew - it had Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor on it. It was very cool. I also did out cards for my sister and signed them from all the cats - (in my best kid-like handwriting). Last night before bed, I went around and taped them up all over the house, in places I knew she would find them in the morning; the toaster, the fridge door, the basement door and her bathroom drawer. Pippin followed me around while I did it, very interested in what was going on.

This weekend [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna is coming down and there will be fangirling and movie-watching (I think we settled on Star Trek!) and maybe dinner somewhere. Between that and the fact that this cold thing is kicking my ass and I have to be in bed by ten o'clock or I fall over, I probably won't be back to LJ-Land until Monday. So you all have a HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY (what's left of it) and a GREAT WEEKEND to go with it!
dodger_sister: (sick)
Has it really been a week since I posted last? Damn. Uh, let’s see…I felt pretty crappy on Tuesday, but then I slept 11 straight hours, completely out cold and I felt great on Wednesday. I managed to get a bunch of stuff done, some things that had been piling up. On Thursday, I went for my monthly labwork and the girl there - (yes, she was a ‘girl’, she seemed so young) - stuck me twice and couldn't get it. Normally my rule is to give them two sticks and then ask for their supervisor, but I've had the supervisor draw me before and she never gets it either. Thankfully The BFF (awesome as she is) was staying the night and offered to bring me back the next day when my normal tech was there. My tech is in her 60s now, so idek what I'll do when she retires. After the lab, it was off to the eye doctor, which is an hour away. From the time I got up and started getting ready until we finally got home and collapsed, it was an almost seven hour day, which is way too much for me. So the rest of the day was a complete wash, and also my eyes were dilated so I couldn’t even get on my Ipad!

On Friday, I ran errands but I started getting this killer headache. Then my sister took us out to dinner, which was nice as we rarely do that, but by the time we got home, I felt like I was underwater and everything was moving in slow-motion. Even my sister was like, "Are you okay? You are walking really slow." I went to bed early that night. Saturday I felt pretty good, but this time it was my sister who was sick. She's started coughing again and it has gotten to sounding really nasty. She saw a doc and they said nothing was wrong with her, but doctors are idiots as she's clearly sick. So I watched TV with her all day, but I figured one day of sitting around being lazy, after that week, was fine.

I really intended to do something on Sunday, I swear. My Sunday, with some social issues commentary included. )

Once I was in bed, my lower back starting hurting and then I cramped up and bam, I got hit hard with my Awesome Time of Month like out of nowhere. Usually I can tell when it is coming but this one snuck up on me. On Monday, I found myself literally doubled over at my computer desk with cramps. So I basically spent the whole day with my friend, the heating pad. Today the cramps are much better, but my throat feels like an army of red ants marched through it last night. It burns, precious, it burns. And I have a nasty dry cough to go with it.

But I broke through my writer’s block on my Johanna/Annie fic and today my sister brought me chocolate and I got my Valentine’s Day cards for the kids in the family sent out and Buddy snuggled with me all last night. He even brought his own little baby doll (it’s a miniature Bert from Sesame Street) to bed with us for a cuddle.

So, that was my week. How were yours?
dodger_sister: (writing)
Well, eleven days into the month and I am finally getting my word count up for February. I actually hit a pretty good count last month. Not quite as much as in January, but still well beyond my goal of 500 words a week.

Most of my words seemed to be Dean/Cas, but I also managed a little Firefly. And I wrote some Without A Trace fic for the first time in probably five years. I don’t even know where that came from or what just happened there. There is this image I have had in my head for years of Martin trudging up the stairs to his apartment and finding Danny sitting there, head bowed. I sat down to meet my word count and out of nowhere, the story for that image just wrote itself. After all this time, that was quite a nice surprise. I also wrote my first real Justified fic - (not counting that drabble I wrote last year and intended to flesh out but never did). Finding Raylan and Boyd’s voices took me a minute but I am really happy with how it came out.

My word count for February 2012, as well as a look back at Fic of Februarys Past. )

I did sit down and write that Hunger Games fic that has been needling at me. I am unsure if it is any good or fits very well in canon, since it’s been awhile since I read the first book, but writing it was definitely a cathartic release that I desperately needed. And it’s Sunday today, which means I should be writing some Firefly Apocalypse fic, but I really just want to go read more Catching Fire. Decisions, decisions.

So, a week late here, but my Valentine's Day was pretty damn good. I managed to make it to the store to buy some little gifts for The Sister, The BFF and [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna - who was coming down for an awesome Gilmore Girls marathon - as well as picking up some little cards for the kids in the family. There seem to be more and more children every year. I got Scooby-Doo cards for all the kids and I mailed them out, which I am sure was exciting for them because what kid doesn't love to get mail? I also got chocolate from both The Sister and The BFF and it was timed quite well, as I started my Awesome Time of Month on Valentine's Day and my body was sorely craving the chocolate.

I also was just overwhelmed by all the lovely V-Gifts you guys sent me. It wasn't just my womanly hormones that had me all teary-eyed over all the love. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anyothergirl415, [livejournal.com profile] jojothecr, [livejournal.com profile] denig37, [livejournal.com profile] fragrantwoods, [livejournal.com profile] vikingprincess, [livejournal.com profile] sephirothflame, [livejournal.com profile] rhymephile, [livejournal.com profile] denyce, [livejournal.com profile] lizibabes and [livejournal.com profile] flawed_x_design for the beautiful glass hearts. You guys are AMAZING. And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ranua for the headless teddy bear. I know, a headless teddy bear seems creepy and stalker-ish, but that's just how we roll - right, babe?

I finally managed to get my Valentine's Day fic posted and I have gotten some lovely comments on it - (which I plan on responding to tomorrow). I got a wonderful rec on that story I posted at the very beginning of the year, "If Dreams There Be". I am so blown away by the response that fic got.

And finally, there is this website called Stageit where performers put on exclusive live shows that stream out. The service is free, you just have to buy tickets to whichever shows you want to see. This seems to be especially nice if you are following a smaller performer who maybe doesn't drag his sorry-ass to Michigan. Um, anyways, [livejournal.com profile] ranua got me a ticket to see Steve Carlson and Christian Kane side-by-side playing their acoustic guitars! Some of you may know the, well let's say...happy times I have watching Steve play the guitar. This acoustic set is most exciting! Also, it's thus far the closest [livejournal.com profile] ranua and I have come to seeing a concert together - though someday we will do the real thing.

I can't tell if this post is full of love or just braggy, so to make it more interesting, have a therapy story...

Today the aide tried to put me in the booth with the high table - most of them have high tables which I can't get up on to.

Me: Okay, but I'm going to go in the booth with the adjustable table because PT can't lift me up on the table.
Aide: Oh, I forgot Kevin used to do that. I could lift you though. Look at my arms. (she is not wrong, the girl's arms look damn good).
Me: You know, first day PT realized she couldn't get me on the table and I told her to look around, that I was sure someone here could. I bet you could. Cute Guy was here that day and I told her to go get him but I think she thought I was just being pervy.

One of the aides started laughing and the other just raised her eyebrows at me.
Me: Okay, so I was being pervy but also practical. I mean, he could lift me. Whatever.

They just kept laughing.

My Valentine's Day fic! Hey, I am pretty happy with the fact that I am getting this up less than a week since Valentine's Day occurred. This is a record for me. This story was seriously suppose to be 1,200 words but somehow I kept adding more and more scenes until it was over 4,000 words. I can't remember the last time I broke 4,000 words. Besides adorable!Dean/Cas, I am also really happy with all the added interactions Dean has with everyone else in his life.

A bazillion thanks to [livejournal.com profile] liptonrm for the beta!

Summary: Dean wants to buy something special for someone special for Valentine’s Day. First he needs to figure out what to buy, where to get the money and which special classmate to give it to. Dean/Cas (age 12), Sam, John, Bobby + Various Cameos, AU, Fluff, Holiday, Romance, Wee!chesters, Rated PG with some Mild Language and Kissing and 4,444 words.

My lovely Flist for Valentine's Day - this one is for all of you! /hearts and kisses and rainbows/

Just popping in to say "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!" to my lovely Flist.

YOU GUYS ROCK IT HARD.

I always think of this day as a way to celebrate all the people whom I love, romantic or otherwise. So for you, my friends, here is a card I made back whenever of Jordana and Clea from "The Faculty" giving kisses to their costar, Shawn. (Why, yes, "Southland" fans, that is Sammy Bryant).

Now I'm going to eat another of the chocolates I got from my sister and go lay down with the heating pad. Therapy was brutal today and I spent the whole time trying to explain to PT who Adam Baldwin is. He's Jayne Fucking Cobb, woman. On the upside, I did convince her to check out "Firefly", which she had never even heard of. (see, Fox, she is a Whedon fan, if you had just given it any promo time, it may have made it! /end rant/)

Hope your days were all good, bbs. <3

1. Happy belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] lathan_lover! Happy actual Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] afra_schatz! Happy early Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] elfscribe5! I hope all your days were/are AWESOME!!

Three pretty pictures under the cut for your birthdays. )

2. I wanted to say Thank You to [livejournal.com profile] denig37 and [livejournal.com profile] ranua for the V-gifts that they apparently sent me back at Christmas. (stupid LJ doesn't send notifications for v-gifts). I love cookies and anything wearing a ridiculous Santa hat. It's true. Also, Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anyothergirl415 for the beautiful glass heart V-gift I got today. Lovely.

3. And a bazillion hundred THANK YOUS to [livejournal.com profile] denig37 for the "That's My Man High-Five" The Todd icon she made me!!!! I am still smiling like an idiot over it. (Go check it out, peoples. I put it up on my last post. That's my man! High-Five!)

4. I finished my Valentine's Day fic. The week got away from me, I was so busy doing RL things that were not really fun but definitely necessary, so I never got my Firefly fic up. But I will definitely be posting my Dean/Cas Valentine's Day AU, probably Wednesday, since I have therapy tomorrow.

5. It is bad luck to end on an even number, so let me inform you that I am eating Sweetheart Valentine's Day candy that I got from my grandma. Yes, I still apparently get Valentine's Day candy from my grandma. It's yummy. The one I just ate said, "Step Up." What the hell kind of love message is that?

That is all.
dodger_sister: (fanfic)
January was a really good month for me for writing. I made myself a very simple goal at the beginning of the year - 500 words a week. It’s not much but it’s way more than I managed towards the end of last year. My big problem is just getting myself to sit down to write - (once on the computer, I usually get distracted by shiny things). I figured if I just made myself start writing, odds are I would get a good flow going.

And it seems to have worked.

The big thing I did this month was write two Firefly fics. It’s been a couple of years since I wrote any Firefly. I thought I might have a problem slipping back into Firefly-speak but it was like riding a bike, I just picked it right back up. You know how if you see a friend or family member again after an absence of a few years and in five minutes it is like no time has passed at all between you? Writing Firefly is like that - it’s like coming home for me.

I also wrote a pairing in SPN that I had never tried before, Dean/Gabriel, and a really dark Wincest fic that stretched my writing beyond my comfort zone, which is always fun and interesting.

My word count for January 2012, as well as a look back at Fic of Januarys Past. )

I think the next thing I post will probably be the Jayne/Mal Firefly fic. In the meantime, I haven't written anything since Sunday, so in order to make this week's word count, I have to hunker down today. Like, right now.

Beta Cry!

dodger_sister: (question)
Writing has been going extremely well this month. I will make a post in a few days with my word count. Right now I am in need of a beta (or betas). For various reasons, each of these fics has me questioning certain sections - probably a lot of that has to do with how fast I have turned them out.

[livejournal.com profile] menel's birthday is tomorrow and I wrote her two fics - (I had two ideas and I couldn't decide which one to write, so I wrote them both). I am undecided on which one I am actually going to give her for her birthday but I would like them both looked over. I'm going to put the details under a cut, in case somehow [livejournal.com profile] menel sees this post in the next 24 hours. In fact, I'm going to put all the story details - three SPN and one Firefly fic - under the cut.

Click if you think you may be interested. )

Any takers? You can pick just one, you don't have to offer on all four. You would be rewarded with love and affection - you can't put a monetary value on love and affection. Also, there would be much thanking on my part.

To make this post more interesting for you...here is a picture of Jeffrey Dean Morgan looking particularly sexy.

That's good stuff, right?
dodger_sister: (romance)
Okay, so Valentine's Day was over like an hour and a half ago, but still - it's the thought that counts, right?

Hope your days were all awesome - and if not, well, look at this picture of Giles and tell me that doesn't make you feel better. Come on, who doesn't love The Giles? Also, Hello Kitty, which I made for The Little Girl Cousin, because she likes pink. :)

My sister bought me chocolate. I ate them already. She bought some for The BFF too, but then she ate them herself. Sssssh. She'll buy her more, I promise. :)

Then today we went to see my grandpa - (who is doing better!) - and we played cards with him. We've been playing Rummy with him and he keeps taking our money. Once we showed up with The BFF, and so we had enough people to play Euchre. Every time since then when we come, he asks where The BFF is because he wants to talk to her about how she is going to be a lawyer and he wants to play Euchre. So today we arranged for our dad to meet us at the rehab center so we would have enough people to play Euchre.

And me and my sister partnered up and we kicked their asses! That's what Grandpa gets for taking all our money (okay, it was like 20cents) and smack-talking us while he did it! (Now I know where I learned my smack-talk from). My dad says that Valentine's Day is for girls anyway, so they totally let us win. Whatever.

Hugs to all my Flist-Peeps - you all rock!
