Today we celebrate two things and I am sure Billy Boyd will be fine with going second on this. Because today is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech. This kind of blows my mind because while 50 years can seem like a long time in regards to certain things, when it comes to equality, it's barely a drop in the bucket of our history. I mean, my parents were only sophomores in high school when this took place. That is mind-boggling to me.

Martin Luther King JR

I was reading this article on various unknown facts regarding the March on Washington and I really liked this excerpt: Back in 1963, college student Patricia Worthy took a job answering phones for the March on Washington's planning office. She had 10 phone lines to answer, and they rang from the time she walked in until she left for the day. "I recall one day I'll never forget, I heard someone say, 'Where is this young lady who handles the phone?' And finally I looked up, and there he was -- Dr. King -- and he said, 'I want to meet this young lady. She has put me on the hold twice, and hung up on me once, and I want to know who she is.' "

For more interesting facts and some color photos of the day fifty years ago, go to this CNN article, here.

And now, BILLEH'S BIRTHDAY! IT'S #45! That means it was fifteen years ago today that Billy set out on his Lord Of The Rings journey for the first time. He tells that story on the FotR behind-the-scenes about meeting up with Orlando at Heathrow airport and how it was his 30th birthday, so they celebrated on the plane together and then when they got to LA, because of the time difference, it was his birthday again. That makes it FIFTEEN YEARS now. I had no idea that fifteen years ago, my life would change like this, that reading those books and watching those movies would stumble me into this entire world of Fandom that I never knew existed and can't imagine my life without now.

In my search for a proper way to celebrate Billy Boyd's birthday - as has become my LJ tradition - I stumbled across a ridiculous video skit between him and Dom on the set that I had never seen before. I didn't know there was anything left that I had never seen and yet, here it is.

In which Dom brings Billy the wrong ice cream and Billy locks him in the bathroom for it.

IDEK how the fates managed to bring these two dorks together like this.

Hope all your weeks are going well!

The houseguests have departed now. It was a pretty good weekend, I must say, despite my Awesome Time of Month kicking in on Saturday. I had been feeling it coming for a few days, and then I had a killer headache on Friday, and woke up to cramps on Saturday. Ugh.

My weekend under the cut for spaceage. )

We played some Middle-Earth Jeopardy. I did not win - not even a little surprised there - but I did not do as terrible as I expected I would against the two masters. It helped that I nailed the shit out of the category for other characters the actors of Middle-Earth have played. Today we watched some fanvids and the old LotR MTV Movie Award spots and the interview where Dom pretends to be a German journalist, which is still the funniest fucking thing ever. Dom’s a genius.

Now I am ready to sleep and then chill out tomorrow and catch up on some TV. How were your weekends?

1. Two TV things of note - On Sunday, the 26th at 12am (so midnight for the 25th, if that makes sense) on TVGuide Network is some show called ’Rove LA’. I am assuming it is like an entertainment insider show. Anyway, that night’s episode will feature Justin Timberlake, Eliza Dushku & James Marsden - Justin, Faith & Cyclops together! It’s like some bizarre crossover. I am Tivoing it. Also on the 27th, Monday, at 7pm on the G4 channel, Dominic Monaghan is going to be on Attack of the Show! It is a zany off-the-wall kind of talk show/entertainment show. I look forward to seeing what they end up talking about - (it never seems to be what the ‘regular’ interview shows talk about with guests).

#2-5 under the cut for spaceage! )

I feel like there was something more but since 5 is an odd number, let’s stop there. Have a good weekend all!
dodger_sister: (lord of the rings)
This weekend we did a rewatch of the extended editions of Lord of the Rings, one movie every night, so we literally just turned off the TV from watching Return of the King. I thought I would have so many thoughts for you all, but nothing inside me is coherent right now. I am afraid you will never get anything coherent and full from me when it comes to this subject matter - it is far too overwhelming.

There were the typical smart-mouth jokes from us all - mine including, "Oh, my mithril twink shirt! I must have forgotten to take it off after my night at the club." And when Aragorn went to his mother's grave, "Oh, look, he is praying to the Blue Lady," (which I lost my shit trying to get the words out because Dark Angel ruins everything). And the ever popular and infamous, "Gondor has no pants! Gondor needs no pants!" And, of course, all the bazillion jokes about what kind of conditioner Legolas uses on his hair.

And then there were all the memory lane trips - "Remember how Bean was afraid to fly in the helicopter and so walked up the mountain every day?" And, "Remember when Billy and Dom convinced Elijah that Tig was a real game?" And, "Remember how Viggo, the damn dirty hippie, convinced them all to sleep outside all night just to catch that shot of the sunrise?"

And, of course, all the crying. Happy tears, sad tears, tears of overwhelming emotion. When Boromir dies. When Theoden gives his speeches and recites his poem (the Red Dawn Speech always leaves me shaken to my very core). When Faramir's left-hand man dies (I have the best fic idea for this man but I don't know his name or if he even has a name). When Pippin sings for Denethor. When Aragorn gives his speech and looks back and says, "For Frodo." (and I love that Merry and Pip are the first ones to go running after him). So many things that hit me so hard.

But nothing compares to the flood of emotions that rip through me as when Sam says, "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you," and then picks up Frodo and fucking carries him.

I just...I don't...I can't...there aren't words in Elvish, Entish or the tongues of Men for what I feel inside.

Middle-Earth is a song that warms me at the core of everything I have.

"I am glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee, here at the end of all things."

Indeed.

The BFF just came in my room while I was typing this and I said, "I am making a post about all my feelings like a big giant girl." Her response, "Own it." So...I shall.

Ride now! Forth Eorlingas!

The weather here has evened out at about 50 - 60 degrees, depending on if the sun is out. Not horrible, but since we have had blizzards before in May, I'm not going to say it's over. Nevertheless, I went outside without a coat today. Yay that!

I saw my hip doctor last week. Everything is good!! The hip replacements aren’t loose or worn down yet. No surgery for awhile. They want to see me back in 2 years. I can go back to therapy. This means I will be in shape just in time to start wearing tank tops again. It may be vain, but I don’t care, my arms looked good last summer. Plus, since I converted half of the PT aides into watching Supernatural, at least the conversation won't suck. And I have my new Ipod to use. Not really excited about therapy, but I feel like I have grown as a person that I can even be not bashing my head against a wall at the prospect of it. Of course, my new found love of watching Deadwood may have turned my language more colorful than usual, and thus made me fit to never leave the house again, so therapy will be an interesting experiment in social interactions.

Now a Better Late Than Never Update... )

Also, I am reading a book that I would like to talk about at some point, and I am about ready to start serial killing the neighbor children and summer vacation hasn’t even started yet.

Guess I’ll get to those in a different post.

That is all.
dodger_sister: (friends the television show)
My subject line is apropos of nothing...except I was just watching "Friends" and Joey had these boxes stacked up in front of the TV and Chandler came in and Joey's head popped up all tralalala. Then Chandler was all whining about Ross and Joey said, "Hey, Ross is our friend and he needs our help! Now, would you just be a grown-up and come watch some TV in the fort?" - and I loled so hard because I heart Joey something fierce. FIERCE!

Then next they aired the episode with Ross' sandwich, "MY SANDWICH!" and it was also the "I'm Joey. I'm disgusting. I eat chicken skins and look at naked pictures of my friends." episode. Which is basically a series of events that makes Joey look horrible until they catch him eating chicken skins and looking at naked pictures of Monica. The former is totally Joey's fault, but the latter, it turns out, is all Monica's fault.

The point of that is that it is hilarious and my sister and I say it all the time. "I gotta shower. I'm Joey." Which is code for "I'm sweaty and gross and disgusting." Or if I burp, then it's all, "Excuse me. I'm Joey." and my sister will say, "Don't eat so many chicken skins. And stop looking at naked pictures of your friends."

Because we are just that lame awesome.

Other random things - like Battle: Los Angeles, a grandpa update and random British nurses. )

Erm. Sometimes being a fangirl amongst the normies is hard.

In Sim News - Dodger is dating a vampire and an angel - but not Angel The Vampire )

Also, today I picked up my new glasses. So far they have only given me a headache, but I think I just have to get used to them. Oh, and I do not have the consumption or the death plague - I think I had a chest cold and a pulled muscle at the same inconvenient time - but THANK YOU for your concern and love! <3

That is all.
dodger_sister: (100%deanapproved-smut_slut)
My LJ User Info is telling me that I have made 101 LJ entries! That means that random post I made yesterday about "The Monster Squad" and "Buffy" and my writing woes was my 100th Live Journal entry!

That's kind of cool.

At least, I find it exciting.

Does that make me lame?

Shut up.

So, question to my flist...have you made 50 entries? 100? 200? 500? What were they about? Answer in comments or re-post to your journal.

My 50th entry seems to have been on August 15th and was entitled "Dominic Monaghan Is A Sex-Ass!".

Well...on to 200!

EDIT: Pippin-Cat is very excited about my LJ accomplishment too! He just brought me the head of a frog in celebration and dropped it at my feet. It's really creepy looking and it's been under the couch, so it's all covered in dust and shit. But I told him what a good boy he was anyway.

Holy Shit. Dominic Monaghan is a sex-ass. Like. Damn.

Dear Eminem -

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Love, Dodger

OMG. Do you think anyone watched him as Geoffrey Shawcross in first season of Hetty when he was like 16 and thought to themselves, "Hey, I bet that kid grows up to be a sex-ass."?

Cuz. Damn.

See Dominic and his sex-ass here.

Carry on.
