A week ago today I was on spring break with Sis & our friend [personal profile] hiyacynth, + her son Munchy P (8), & The Niece (6) & Nephew (nearly 13)...at Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky, OH. I give GWL double thumbs up on both accessiblity & entertainment.

Once you are there, no reason to ever leave the resort the whole stay. The indoor water park has a pool, hot tubs for adults & kids, lily pad obstacle, clubhouse, gadget sprays that come on with pullies & levers, plus multiple water slides. Kept the kids entertained all day. The Niece insisted I “follow her!” so The Nephew pushed my wheelchair behind her while she pulled every lever to spray us! Also I definitely did the 700 gallon bucket dump. And I definitely screamed my whole way through it. And then I definitely got into the hot tub after that.

Under the cut for spaceage. )

So all in all, a great spring break with some of my fav peeps.

Hi, Ho!

I didn't want you guys to think I had fallen off the face of the Earth! Or, more likely, that I was sick or something. No, instead I have just been really busy. Sis is off work this week, her stay-cation week, her week of rest, her week to stay home and live the dream of doing nothing. Saturday she actually stayed in her pjs all day and basically did nothing. We watched a ton of TV and she played her video games and lazed around. Sunday, unfortunately, she always has to run all the errands. She does all our errands, all of Mom's errands and all of Dad's errands, including all the grocery shopping. Not so much rest that day. On Monday we had some time set aside to work on my cosplay - Brother's having a costume party! - and take me to PT, but otherwise, a chill day. Except, apparently, Sis was done resting! Cuz I wake up on Monday and she is like, "Uh, I invited [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and Munchy P to come visit. They'll be here this evening." Which, AWESOME - I'd been bugging them about coming! Otoh, 'resting' - Sis keeps using that word, I do not think it means what she thinks it means. And we had already arranged to have The Niece for a few days, as Brother and Sis-In-Law wanted some alone time for SIL's birthday and The Nephew is at camp this week.

So, basically, it boiled down to this: Saturday, rest. Sunday, errands. Hiyacynth and Munchy (age 4) here from Monday evening until Thursday morning. The Niece (age 2 1/2) here from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday afternoon. BFF here Wednesday afternoon and evening. Little Girl Cousin (age 11) here from Thursday morning until Friday afternoon. Monday, PT. Wednesday, PT. Friday, pain clinic appt. Saturday, Brother's costume party. Sunday, catch up on last week's TV with Sis. Monday, eye doctor appt all day. Tuesday, catch up on my last week of TV watching. Wednesday, PT. Thursday - The Rest Of My Life, sleep.

But, no, it's been TONS of fun!! The first time Niece has stayed here without her brother, so bedtime is a screaming fit for about 10 minutes for Brother, Mommy, Daddy. She actually does this every time, it's just her brother is usually here and being the good kid that he is, he stops what he is doing and helps tuck her in and stuff. Otherwise, she's been all smiles, she is so fricking cute! I have a lot stories to share too, but for now just wanted you to know where I was and all. Hope your weeks are all going good too!
dodger_sister: (80s movies)
Just in case any of you wondered how I spend my days…Today, when my sister came home from work, I was wearing my Lego Movie pajamas, listening to the Glee soundtrack, working on a sketch of Shawn Spencer from ‘Psych’ and sucking on a Ring Pop. Cuz I am a grown-ass woman, yo!

So, over the weekend, [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and her boy, Munchy P, were here. They were set to come on Friday, but after looking at the weather report, we started to get concerned about what were being described as ‘potential white-out conditions’. She said she’d think on it Wednesday night and then on Thursday I awoke to a text from my sister saying Hiyacynth was on the way here, deciding to come a day early! She very cleverly brought a sled along, in case they did get stranded on the side of the road, that she could pull her son behind her instead of carrying him through the snow.

Sis and BFF were at work on Friday, so while Hiyacynth was baking delicious bread, I played with Munchy for a few hours. He got out the Bert & Ernie dolls and we played out what I later realized was very similar to an actual episode of Sesame Street. Bert kept bringing ants into the house via his garden. “Ants in your pants, Bert? Don’t sit on the chair - you’ll get ants on the chair!” - “I sit in your chair, now you have ants in your chair!” Lather, rinse, repeat that for a half an hour. We also played on the IPad and the kid suckered me into purchasing more puzzles in the puzzle app. He is so vocal now and it is adorable. It shouldn’t be so cute when a kid cries, but when my sister shut him out of the basement so the cats could eat dinner in peace, he cried, “If you shut me out of there again, I will be sad!” Also I noticed that if one of his aunties did a transgression, we were all to blame for it. “But my aunties won’t let me in the kitchen!” - “But my aunties turned off the light!” I’m sorry, but it’s just adorable. On Saturday, just after I woke up, while I was still in bed, Munchy came traipsing into my room with a new book, crawled up in my bed and handed it to me to read to him. After that he wanted my IPad, so we cuddled up in my bed and played on that while his Mom took a shower.

We had a lot of good food and watched some movies - got to see Winter Soldier again, which I really do love a lot - and all in all, I had a pretty excellent weekend. Now I have to spend the week working on K’s birthday present. It’s his 50th this year!

So, the whole Chicago trip turned out much different than planned. It was suppose to be 2 different fangirls, Sis' college roommate and then [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and her family. But one fangirl had classes and the other had a family emergency and College Roommate had to go out of town at the last minute - and though we missed seeing her, that worked out well because it was soon enough to cancel the hotel and stay at her handicap accessible apartment instead, saving me some serious cash. It ended up just [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth, Geek Husband and Munchy P - (who is 3 ½ now, wtf?!) So we left a little later than planned on Friday, got there, settled in, had Hiyacynth and Fam over for dinner and then sat around watching Harry Potter because we couldn’t make the very outdated Tivo work!

On Saturday, we grabbed breakfast at the diner down the street and then we went to the aquarium, where I have never been before. Hiyacynth and Munchy P joined us there. We did everything! My sister and I went through the entire place. Munchy got tired after a couple hours and they went home and The BFF went to one of the viewing areas and sat for a long while, but my sister and I kept going. There was SO much to see and I honestly could have stayed there all day. My sister was obsessed with the jellyfish and they were very cool - trippy as hell, but super cool. There were ones as small as a contact lens. And translucent ones that had a light that rotated colors in the tank, so they changed colors with the light. The seahorses - I have never seen before and they were so tiny. But they looked exactly like all the picture books I had as a kid. And the sea-dragons were even cooler. (I told Munchy those were dragons in there and he laughed and laughed at me. Auntie is so silly!). And then I got to pet a sturgeon - there was a tank you could stick your hand right inside. And we saw the otters play - (I want one!) - and the Belugas and we went and saw the dolphin show, which was adorable.

But the best part was the tank area where you went underground and the fish were on either side of you and also you could see them overhead in places too. And it should have been claustrophobic, with all those people down there and everyone talking and squeezing up to see along the glass - (this is where the sharks were as well!) - but it wasn’t. I tuned out all the human noise and just stared at the blue water lapping back and forth and watched the fish and sharks swim, like gliding, like flying, through the water, and only let in the sound of the water and the smell of it all and it was so zen and peaceful. I could have stayed there, right there, watching the blue, blue water, all day.

We went home early in the morning and - though it didn’t end up like we had planned and it will sadly be a long while before I get a chance to go back and catch up with the friends I missed - it did end up being a really nice, relaxing, pretty perfect weekend.
dodger_sister: (reading)
This one was going around on the Tumblr, so I thought I'd give it a go.

You are now the main character in the last book that you read. Who are you?

If we are talking the last book I finished, then I am Cath Avery from Fangirl. I’m cool with that. I mean, I’m definitely a fangirl and I was certainly as awkward as Cath was when I was her age - ages and ages ago. But if we are talking current books I am reading, then I am Piper Kerman. Not Piper Chapman though - the real Piper is far less annoying, thank you very much. I don’t think they even make those prison clothes in my size - they’ll have to borrow from juvie hall - but I’m relatively okay with this answer too. Fun meme - now you guys go!

ION, I am headed to Chicago this weekend! The BFF, Sis and myself and we are going to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and Munchy P, my sister's college roommate and her little girls and [livejournal.com profile] dugindeep at various times and places. Grab some dinner, maybe hit a park, Saturday at the aquarium. I've never been to the Shedd Aquarium before and the hotel we are staying at is right within like half a mile of Shedd, so lots of things to do around there, we never have to leave the mile radius. I was trying to make it simple for us, a light easy weekend. We'll get there on Friday afternoon and leave on Sunday morning, just a little weekend visit. I am excited to see some of my girls, man! Sadly, then on Monday I have PT and a university doctor's appointment on Wednesday, so between those and trip-recovery, I'll probably be down and out next week. But it'll be worth it! We almost didn't get to go this year for our Chicago fangirl visit, so I'm psyched it all worked out!
dodger_sister: (misc)
So I didn’t put up a 4th of July post, because I was very busy celebrating, but I hope you all had good holidays/Fridays!

It has been a crazy few weeks here. Last weekend I had lunch with my friend C and her daughter on Saturday and then later, my youngest cousin (by which I mean 26 years old), the big gamer in the family, came over with some new strategy board games for us to play. My sister is a strategist and my cousin has spent his whole life determined to beat her at something - I think it’s only happened once. Haunted House On The Hill (I think was the title?) was pretty good - my sister liked it the best because you can betray the other players. I liked Smash Up, which was kind of like War but with more strategy. I highly recommend you check them out if you are a tabletop gamer. My cousin apparently heard about them from Wil Wheaton’s youtube channel.

Then I spent all week working on The Nephew’s art piece of his superhero team and the accompanying story. I started them last fall, right before I got sick with bronchitis and finally, finally, they are finished!!! I am so happy about it! I took pictures, so I can post them here.

This weekend under the cut! )

Now the houseguests have all gone and my sister has banished me to my room while she cleans up. And, despite how wiped I am right now, I actually made it through this weekend without fainting or getting overly dizzy or just plain having to crawl into bed and miss out. That, itself, makes me happy. Plus, all the above listed awesomeness!

How have your summers been going?
dodger_sister: (hug)
My trip to Chicago was awesome! I came home sore as fuck (the hotel beds were not the best and the car ride is never fun) and exhausted (clearly, as I’m just getting around to typing this up) but it was SO worth it. The traffic going in was pretty bad but we managed to get a view of the water pretty much from the minute we hit Chicago. The hotel was about a block from the lakefront, in a cute little area. Every time I go to Chicago, I love it more and more. I love that it has such a neighborhood-feel to it while still being the big city. Once we got there, [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and Munchy P (who's 2 1/2 now) came to the hotel. The BFF had brought him a Superman shirt with a cape on it and he put it on and proceeded to jump on the hotel beds until finally he turned to my sister and said, "Do I want to fly?" and she picked him up and 'flew' him around the room. He was laughing so hard he kept forgetting to put his arms out.

More on my trip under the cut. )

You know, I love getting to meet my LJ fangirls in Real Life. They are both so fucking awesome and now that I can say we've met before, they have open invitations to come stay at Fangirl Central. The kids in the family don't call this The Fun House for nothing. Then my sister made us get up at the asscrack of dawn (well, at least in my world it was the asscrack of dawn) to get ahead of the marathon traffic. But we were home and all taking naps by 1pm, so that was good. It was a most excellent trip!
dodger_sister: (muppets)
So, I had a pretty awesome weekend! My glasses came in, for one, so I am no longer straining my eyes. Then I had therapy, whatever, but after I got home, The BFF and I watched The Avengers (Science!Bros FTW!), which was happy-making. But then, best of all, was that on Saturday [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth + Husband & Munchy P (who is 2 ½ now and talking up a storm about everything!) came for a visit. We hung out, grilled out (The BFF is still the Master Of The Grill), Munchy played in the wading pool, then we watched some Community. And on Sunday we all went to the zoo! I haven’t been to the zoo in 6 or 7 years, so this was nice.

Goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo. How about you, you, you? You can come too, too, too. We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo. )

My sister had Monday and Tuesday off as well, but those were less exciting days and I accidentally watched World War Z and it would be another 500 words if I went into how much that sucked, so No, Nope, Nonono, that’s a whole different post. Suffice to say, if you loved the book, DON’T SEE THE MOVIE. It’s okay, I have now made my life better and cleansed that shit from my brain by watching copious amounts of A-Team fanvids. (I could explain why but let’s just go with “Because I <3 Face & Murdock, shut up!”).

How were your weekends?
dodger_sister: (hello goodbye)
Did you miss me? Oh yeah, I guess I do usually disappear from LJ over the weekend, don’t I?

Well, I was gone! I went to Chicago for two - count ‘em two - birthday parties; a 40th birthday and a 2nd birthday, quite the range. We drove down on Friday for the first party, my sister’s college roommate.

More words under this cut. )

All in all, a very good weekend, even if I am going to be paying for it for the next week or so.
dodger_sister: (tired)
The houseguests have departed now. It was a pretty good weekend, I must say, despite my Awesome Time of Month kicking in on Saturday. I had been feeling it coming for a few days, and then I had a killer headache on Friday, and woke up to cramps on Saturday. Ugh.

My weekend under the cut for spaceage. )

We played some Middle-Earth Jeopardy. I did not win - not even a little surprised there - but I did not do as terrible as I expected I would against the two masters. It helped that I nailed the shit out of the category for other characters the actors of Middle-Earth have played. Today we watched some fanvids and the old LotR MTV Movie Award spots and the interview where Dom pretends to be a German journalist, which is still the funniest fucking thing ever. Dom’s a genius.

Now I am ready to sleep and then chill out tomorrow and catch up on some TV. How were your weekends?
dodger_sister: (happy)
Three years drug-free today. I just wanted to mark it down somewhere.

Emotions under here. )

I feel accomplished that I just made it through another year. I think we all should celebrate that sometimes, because we all get up everyday and keep moving forward, and sometimes that’s a feat in itself.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and Munchy P are coming for a visit this weekend! I feel like I haven’t seen them in forever. And my sister made a FanGirl Jeopardy for us to play (it’s a thing she’s been doing for years and yes, it is as fun as it sounds!) so I am seriously psyched for the weekend!
dodger_sister: (thinking)
My sister went to Chicago this weekend to visit with [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and Munchy P. That kid is growing so damn fast - he looks like a whole little man-person now.

Here I take a moment to vent about my mom. )

In much better news, The BFF came down for the weekend and we got to finally watch Step Up Revolution. As far as the Step Up movies go, story-wise I think it may have been the worst. Though Eddie was a total hottie - The BFF pointed out how he looked like a cross between Josh Hutcherson and Scott Caan, so you see my attraction. But the dancing was the BEST of all the movies by far. The end scene alone was mind-blowing, plus they took a time-out for some nice contemporary dancing that was refreshing in the face of all the club dancing. Then we watched some first season SPN - Asylum and Scarecrow. It was like a cleansing for my soul. Seriously, I feel revitalized after some S1 SPN. Dean was fucking shining and Sam was so wee (yes, at 6’4) and everything is wonderful and beautiful in first season. I long for such a simple time again.

How were your weekends?
dodger_sister: (dance)
Hi! I feel like I have barely been on LJ at all lately. I have been very busy and when I am not busy being busy, I am busy catching up on rest from being so busy. I also have a lot of writing to get done this month and way more busy-ness coming up later, so I’ll be around as much as I can. At one point about two weeks ago I was actually caught up on all things LJ. That is so a spot in the distance these days.

But I had a good weekend! Other than the awful news about Adam Yauch, my RL went very well. On Friday I saw The Avengers and I loved it. It was exactly what I expected from a fun-loving misfit team of superheroes being manned by the one-eyed Samuel L. Jackson in a movie directed by Joss Whedon. I was especially taken with the geek-bros of Bruce and Tony and their adorable friendship. My sister was all over Hawkeye (as was I) - it was so cute watching her discover the manly-awesome that is Jeremy Renner. And I did not hate Black Widow, even though I am not a big fan of Scarlett's. I especially liked her brand of interrogation. Thor has pretty eyes.

A Major Spoil Under The Cut. )

Then my good friend [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth came for a visit with her 13 month old. He is seriously the happiest baby I have ever met in my life and I worked in child care for over decade, so that is saying something. Also, he seems like such a little person already. I have worked with a lot of kids and I don’t ever remember them seeming so developed at that age. Even though he doesn’t talk, he is very expressive and has a full blown personality. He is just too fucking cute. We took him to the park and then we went out for linner (lunch/dinner). We gave him his belated birthday presents - I bought an extra special gift for his parents of the book and audio recording of “Go The Fuck To Sleep” (if you don’t know what that is, go look it up. Samuel L. Jackson does the audio recording and it is fanfuckingawesome).

Then after Munchy P’s bedtime on Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth had us watch this movie called “Strictly Ballroom”. She knows I am a dance geek, and even though it was basically a spoof of dance movies, I loved it. It wasn’t as over-the-top as say the Scary Movies are with the spoofing. I would compare the sense of humor with Best In Show and those Christopher Guest movies. It played on all the classic dance-movie tropes but it was so freaking funny. Plus, it still had really good dancing in it, which I love. If you have watched any of those dance movies at all, this would be funny too you. Hell, it would be funny anyways, plus dancing! I am a dance-geek, I don’t even care.

I have pretty much done nothing but rest since they left. I’ll try to be back with more updates later this week - I have health news, Nephew talk, I just finished watching Children Of Earth and must explode over that, and my LJ anniversary is on Sunday (I have decided to do the Fictional Story Meme).

That is all.
dodger_sister: (dodger 2 - elijah wood in oliver twist)
I saw a meme floating around and I thought about doing it, but there are like 40 questions on it and I'm too lazy (re: busy playing Wii). So let's just write up my months and maybe if I feel like it next week, I'll do a fic list for the year.

My Year In Review... )

Wow. That probably took longer than just doing the actual meme. I guess I'll save the year in movies/music/etc for later. I will also tag this later, because now I am tired).

It was clearly a long, crazy year full of ups and downs, goods and bads...and I am grateful that all of you were there with me!
dodger_sister: (drunkards)
Ya'll are lucky I am even here right now - my Plants VS Zombies game came in the mail yesterday. I played for at least three hours. I have at last come up for air. So, since I am back in the world of the living momentarily, I thought I should continue on with the story of my Awesome Vacation.

Firstly, The BFF would like me to tell you all her favorite story from our Roadtrip - (yep, I say Roadtrip with a capital letter) - in which we went through Quebec and no one spoke English. We were walking into a Harvey's - (basically their version of Burger King only better) - and this man runs up to open the door for us - (because Canadians are nice, even the French ones). Then, because it is polite to thank people, and because Merci is one word we do know in French, The BFF responded with a "Merci." The man then proceeds to try to have a full-on conversation with her in French. She just smiled and nodded. Also, ordering from the 16yr old behind the counter, who didn't speak English, was an experience. It involved hand gestures.

And now the rest of my story...and at the end, I married George Weasley. )

Was that long enough? Did I miss anything else, [livejournal.com profile] liptonrm?

Oh, you want pictures?

I know, you all want baby pictures and wedding pictures, but...I have only been doing this LJ thing for a year. I'm still not comfortable putting up pictures of myself on the internet. And I certainly won't put up pictures of other people, because it's weird to be all putting them on my secret journal that is so secret I won't let them read it.

But how about a picture of the view from gorgeous downtown Stowe, Vermont instead?

Our Room With A View... )

And that concludes my epic series. I hope you enjoyed. I now have Zombies to kill.

ETA: Just thought I should give proper credit to The BFF for the amazing pictures. She's quite handy with the camera.
dodger_sister: (squee)
Now I shall tell you a story.

I woke up on Monday with cramps and icky and being a woman sucks. Guess that's why I couldn't bring myself to workout all weekend and just kept playing video games all day. Figured it would be a crappy couple of days here this week.

WRONG.

Let's continue under here, purely for space purposes. )

Now I away to try to catch up on some shit. I really wanted to have a new story for you all for my birthday - (hobbit tradition states that I am suppose to give gifts on my bday) - but I wouldn't hold my breath on that or anything. Writing is hard, yo.

SERIOUSLY AWESOME WEEK, DUDES.
dodger_sister: (travel)
I had lots of things to report, but let's just do all the good things today.

All of them have to do with Travel! )

So, yay all of that! I also had lots of things to say about series two of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (TOPH!) and "Camelot" (omg the second episode wtf!!!) and "Breaking In" (JUST WATCH IT!!!) and how the second episode of "Chaos" was much better and how much I love, love "Being Human (yes, the SyFy one) - but now I have to go because H50 is back tonight and from the previews it looks like it will be a Chin-centric storyline with some sideline Steve/Danny Hurt/Comfort!

ETA: OMG, H50 has started and are they seriously trying to convince me that Danny is a Yankees fan?! H50 Spoiler Cut ) Erm, I mean, this reminds me also...TIGERS WON OPENING DAY AT COMERICA PARK - THAT'S MY BOYS!!

ETA 2: The episode has ended now and omg - H50 Spoiler Cut #2 ) Excellent episode.
dodger_sister: (flight of the conchords)
So this weekend my sister, The BFF and myself all headed to our friend, [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth's, baby shower. We thought the weather might stop us, but thankfully, it did not. Though I did have to get up at the asscrack of dawn.

Friends do not let friends do crack, Friends go out and grab a snack... )

Honestly, the best Saturday I have had in a long time and I had the most fun hanging out with The BFF.

So, how was your weekend?

On a final note - Hey, Self: when your sister podfics your favorite Dean/Cas AU ever and you fall asleep listening to it - try not to wake up into a hazy consciousness right as your sister's voice is narrating the frottage scene and repeatedly saying the word "cock". It will quite possibly ruin your favorite Dean/Cas love-making scene and also, you know, scar you for life. The End.
dodger_sister: (adam-michaelkickyourass-nami86)
Not even kidding.

Rambling about my sister's bad week and her poor, sick cat. )

Anyway, we shall see what the vet says about Zippo tomorrow - but I am worried and my poor sister is still in the bedroom working on her boss's financial reports.

Onto other things...why is my father so fucking crazy?

This one is full of not pleasant things from my childhood - I won't be offended if you don't want read it, I didn't want to live it. But right now, I just need to vent. )

It's been a bad fucking day.

Also, a couple of days ago I got a little cut on the corner of my mouth from stupidly licking the pudding off the lid to my pudding cup. And it hurts. Also, the inside of my cheek hurts, and is swelling up, probably where I was biting it so hard while my father was speaking.

Although, on the plus side, there is this... )

I tried to chill out by watching some Goonies on ABC Family and then playing Klax (shut it, there is always time for Klax!). But The BFF claims LJ-ing it out would help, so...

Now I might go read some mindless porn. I hear there is a mpreg kink meme on [livejournal.com profile] spn_hardcore. Don't you judge me! Mpreg is mindless and I need mindless.

Thanks for letting me spew. I'll be in Australia.
